When low on cash and in the mood for something fast and I'm in the area, I like to go into Le Basket. They are very inexpensive and the food is not bad, theres a lot to choose from, since they have an extensive choice of food. The salad bar is great and their hot foods are pretty good too. Worth a try when in the area.

Le Basket is the most wonderful, greasy lunch 'salad' bar ever. Open whenever I've wanted to go, this place has no shame in leaving out food that clearly looks like it was left out all day long.. And they have no shame because the stuff still tastes great: loaded with MSG, sauce, and calories, the 'food' part is just an afterthought. Enjoy a wide variety of mayo-based salad products and crispy chinese chicken, dumplings, etc... The sandwich bar is reputed to be fairly healthy, but I've never tried it. There's a long line at lunch time, but the cashiers are incredible (think Soup Nazi from Seinfeld), so don't worry about a wait. In sum, it's a great local stop, but don't come out of your way to try it.

When on the run, Le Basket is a great place to pick up the early morning essentials. A plain bagel and some green tea is how I love to start my day but their array of breakfast foods spans the gamet. A friend of mine swears by their egg, cheese and sausage roll while their salad bar satisfies my other friends vegan diet. Best of all, the service is fast and friendly, ensuring your day will start off on a bright note.

You can't go to too many places in New York City and get an omlette, toast and potatos for under $3. They also have a pretty extensive salad bar with a pretty good selection of hot foods. Their sandwiches are about $5, which is comparable to anything nearby, and the mustard chicken is actually pretty good. I tried the lox once, though, and it left a bit to be desired.
