Frank's Bike shop deep in the heart of the Lower East Side is a place you would never go unless you live in the neighborhood since there is not much else around. They have tons of stuff- new and used bikes, accesories, parts, etc., but it is all stacked to the ceiling and crammed into every nook and cranny and only Frank knows where it all is, so try to get his attention if you can!

I am not a biker, nor I am really into bicycling. But I do like to rent a bike once in a while and see the city. This place is located in a non crowded area and really fits the bill. Even though I know nothing about bikes, I can see that this place is for the advanced. They have tons of bikes and accessories. They also do rentals and repairs. They repaired a chain on my bike for next to nothing.

I have lived across the street from Larry and Jeff's for about 8 years but only stepped into the store as a serious customer a couple of weeks ago. In the past, I was induced to go to Toga because an enthusiast friend worked there (he was an analyst, but worked weekends there because he liked hanging out with his biking buddies).
In any case, I took my twin 4-year-old daughters there. The staff were excellent in handling our questions, and were quite accommodating of having my girls doing racing loops with toddler bikes through their store. The salesman I worked with was totally low-key, appearing most interested in helping me out finding the right products for me and the girls, and seemingly unconcerned about cashing a sale.
The store has a great selection of tricycles, toddler to children bikes, as well as a full range of city, mountain, and street racing bikes. I plan on doing my future bicycle purchases through them, as their combination of friendly attitude, typical professional knowledge (most bike stores seem to employ only active cyclists), wide range of products, and close proximity make them a no-brainer.
I have to admit that Toga is also a nice choice, but rather hard to get to given it's location...
