The name does describe the store. You won’t find a place in New York City that has better prices on candy. How cheap? Here’s a good example. Jelly Belly jellybeans are $9.99-$8.99 elsewhere. Economy candy sells them for $5.99 per pound. Not only is the candy cheap, they also have a large variety. Some of the harder to find candies that were popular decades ago, like candy cigarettes, are still sold there. They also sell dried fruits and nuts. The store itself is neat, but cramped and is usually crowded, but it’s worth putting up with it for the candy.

I think it is a wonderful place. I love the sales girls very friendly and they make you feel at home. When placing an order on the web or by phone, customer service is great especially Melissa and Yadi. The neighborhood has stepped up a lot throughout the years and it is a wonderful experience to walk and spend the afternoon. It is amazing how much the neighborhood changed but it is good that somethings remain unchanged like Economy Candy. The prices are good and like I said the girls are great. Just don't get on the bosses bad side, stick with the girls.

I go in for dried fruit and come out with a big bag of candy. Even if I could resist the sweets, I couldn't resist the nostalgia. Every kind of candy that you remember from your childhood is here. The candy pills on paper, chewy red coins, pastel coated licorice, weird violet lozenges, big thin slices of striped taffy that looks like it was run over by a truck, those Passover "fruit slices" (available here year 'round), little wax bottles filled with sweet mystery liquid, dark chocolate covered graham crackers, etc. Then, get hooked on wonderful imported candy that you've never seen before. Halvah is about as healthy as you'll find here. But it sure is fun to forget about calories for awhile...

Since I live outside the city, I have to make a pilgrimage to Economy Candy every so often to fulfill my sugar fix but it's well worth the trip. I have a thing for Ritters candy bars and they stock all the flavors. Plus a great selection of English chocolates. The bulk nuts are premium quality. Once you start ordering at the bulk counter, it is really hard to stop. I usually tear into my goodies right on the pavement outside. Soft fruit slices, wasabi coated nuts, chocolates. It's the yummiest and cheapest way to get your fix.
The great thing about Economy Candy is your new favorite candy is waiting there for you to discover it.

Every candy ever made at a discount price, well not quite every candy but it seems like it and it is overwhelming. I've gone in this store when my sweet tooth took over control of my brain and walked out empty handed because I just couldn't decide what to get. If you can't eat candy for some reason they also have a large assortment of nuts but be prepared for the smell of sugar and chocolate in the air.

Just when you thought you had put all your childish urges behind you, you run into a candy store that makes Dylands look like amateurs. They have everything a sweet tooth junky could want and then some. we're talking Red Hots, Boston Bake Beans, Necco Wafers, and my personal favorite - Pixie sticks. You'll even find some Cadbury chocolates. And if your sophisticated palate would never eat a chunky bar, they also carry Neuhaus and Lindt. So head on down to the LES and reclaim your childhood.
