this place is really a gem. It has great seafood pasta and awesome dessert. I learn it's made inhouse and that everything is imported. The wine was great and I love the staff and atmosphere. It's perfect for dinner and drinks. I had couple of glass of wine with my friends and stay after dinner the enjoyed the after dinner drinks and calm and breezy atmosphere. Luv this place. This place came a long way since its beginnings. I've been living in the neighborhood and kept going there quite often and experienced all kinds of treatment from their staff but the food never ever disappointed me. I love their pastas, so light and flavorful! Their Mora Di Gelsi salad, crabcakes and seafood salad are my staples. The best news is that the management changed recently and it made all the difference! Their infamous chef is gone and you'll experience nothing but great service and excellent food. After we were seated by the hostess we began looking over the menu and suddenly we were approached by another hostess and asked if we had reservations, as if we were not welcome. At this point the restaurant was maybe 1/3 filled. It took quite a while for a server to come over and take our drink order. During dinner the manager continued to circulate throughout the restaurant hovering uncomfortably over every table. Very creepy. Also. as we entered we gave our umbrellas to the hostess. Upon leaving the restaurant one of the hostesses gestered to another hostess to grab our umbrellas and she just pointed to where they were and said, "there they are." The food was good but the fact that the service was extremely lacking and the hostess was rude will ensure that I will never go to this restaurant again. The only thing that wasn't great was the area--the restaurant is a little secluded from the busy streets, but it's worth the extra distance. I would definitely come back! The owner and the chef of the place is always there, I tend to think he is a practical joker, and quite antagonistic to his staff... Therefore, the service is horrible (if anything, I recommend eating at the bar). But if you like great food, you should give it a try, because that is something that makes this spot exceptional. Parpadelle de la selva nera (pasta cooked with blueberry grappa and rasperry vodka) is out of this world, Salad with mulberries is super tasty, the special are always amazing, insalata Rania will please any party of 2! I?ve never written a review before, but I was so annoyed by the "tude" of the owner that I decided to write this review. The problems started when the hostess told me that she couldn?t find my reservation. In fact, not only did we have a reservation, but the hostess had already seated part of my party (although she kept insisting that I was the first to arrive). When the owner came over and discovered her mistake, he blamed me. (What did I do? Maybe the hostess was his daughter.) Once seated, it took more than 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive, no one asked if we wanted another bottle of wine after we finished our first bottle, and the bill was wrong. The food was fine, but nothing special. Cons: Service and Attitude are Terrible

We happened to pass by Osteria Gelsi on a Friday night before seeing a show. There are not a lot of great places to eat on 9th avenue and in the 30s, so Osteria Gelsi was a site for sore eyes. We stepped in and requested a table for 2. We did not have a reservation, so were given a table by the door. After the cold draft became bothersome we asked to move and were seated at a better table. We ordered some wine (which turned out to be the best part of the meal) and i started with the eggplant appetizer and my friend had the salad with pears. The eggplant app. was covered in oil and lacked any good taste. It was very bland and the eggplant was a bit bitter. It came with some sundried tomates and roasted red peppers which were needed to minimize the taste of the sour eggplant. The pear salad was leafy, yet dry and the pears seemed as if they were from out of a can. For our main courses, I had the fish special (red snapper) and my friend had the chicken. The chicken was advertised as chicken on the bone and that it was...in fact it was about 6 little chicken wings that were a lot of work, but not a lot of food. When I see chicken on the bone I expect a breast and maybe a leg that actually has some meat on it. This wasn't even close. My fish was even more bland that the appetizers and although it was a good size plate, it didnt have any taste and flat out was not good. The best part of the meal was the bread (really good) and the glass of wine. If you are looking to spend some money on food that isn't very tasty, then Osteria Gelsi is the place for you. But i would strongely recommend going elsewhere... Pros: Wine list and Break Cons: The bland entrees and tasteless apps.

Focused my meal on the pastas & chicken - found the Lasanga to be excellent - though tiresome and overly meaty toward the end. Other pastas were good. Risotto lacked pizzaz. Given its location in this somewhat dilapidated neighborhood, the food was better than expected - but service was less than speedy or attentative. Also saw other customers asked to take inferior tables at 3pm when clearly the restaurant was not going to be booked with reservations or table requests. Pros: Lasanga Cons: Service

This place is kind of tucked away from the horde of restaurants in Hell's Kitchen and is just far enough west for most people to miss it. But the restaurant has some of the best Italian cuisine in the area, enough reason to go make the trek over. O.G. is a little upscale for my taste, but is a great place to take a date. They also had a pretty good wine selection. I would definitely stop back next time I am in the area. Pros: Great food, intimate atmosphere Cons: A little off the beaten path
