I used to go to the Black Duck all the time when at my former company as it was literally around the corner. Met up with some old co-workers last night at the duck and now i remember why we always go there for after work. Great drinks and friendly staff. Plus they have that sweet loungy couch area in the front for us to hang out. This is a good spot to go in Flatiron for sure. Cannot comment on the food since i have never eaten here...but they do give out little chocolates!!
Pros: Great Cocktails (and strong cocktails)
Cons: not near my office anymore

I am a research geek.. My hubby & I wanted something special, but yet different & romantic for our 10 year anniversary. I read the reviews previously posted--although everyone is intitled to their opinion, my hubby & I absolutely loved the place! Hospitality was outstanding, the food was absolutely delicious & the atmosphere was simply cozy & everything that we could have ever hoped for! I was very suprised by our cozy booth with rose petals scattered about & the jazz band playing in the distance. The service was outstanding & Richard, was very accomidating to our needs and wants. Being from Texas, that says a lot! The Black Duck is definately a best kept secret that I am telling ALL my friends about! I can't wait to return!
A BIG Texas thank you for a very memoriable anniversary!
Pros: the food & surroundings
Cons: ???????????????????

My boyfriend and I made a reservation for Valentines Day at the Black duck and were extremely disappointed. From the $85 per person prefix menu, the appetizers, yellowtail, clams, & scallops were pretty good. However the entrees were awful. The steak was cooked well, while we ordered it medium rare. The lobster was so overcooked it tasted like a sponge. We were already an hour and a 1/2 into dinner and didn't want to send the food back. I haven't seen the regular menu, but will not go back to try it.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Food

I've eaten here before in the past over a year ago and have pleasant memories of the place. So I decided to reserved a table for my wife and I for Valentine's Day. It's an intimate romantic restaurant. My reservation was on the late side. They were really busy when we arrived and we had to wait a few minutes at the bar. We didn't mind as they were gracious about it and even offered us a drink. The menu was a 4-course meal and was to die for. The food took a little long to come out, but I was enjoying the company of my wife and when it did arrive, was well worth the wait. As a bonus, they had live jazz which I love. I highly recommend the BLACK DUCK for Valentine's Day or anytime. We're going back soon to try the regular menu.
Pros: Food, service, live music
Cons: Getting too popular

Recently dined here BASED upon all the positive reviews. They are all fake. Apart from getting sick 5 hrs after dinner. the food was mediocre at best...and the help is rude and inconsiderate. It took us 4 hrs to get our meal that was cold, stale and tasteless. If you like food or have any sense whatsoever never eat at the black duck.
Pros: leaving the place
Cons: food, service, everything

I was looking forward to Black Duck, as many of the reviews were stellar. To their credit, the food was well prepared and presented. Flavors mingled well and were not overdone. However, the service was atrocious. Our waiter never once said a word to us, just took order, and dropped off plates. I would have bought some wine if he even asked if I wanted a bottle. I had to remind him to bring bread and the comp. Champagne. The tip was already included as a service fee (there were only two of us) I hate seeing that on a bill. As soon as dessert was served, we were kindly asked to HURRY UP. We were at the rest. for about 90 mins, and then everyone in our section was asked to leave. Sorry black duck, never again...
Pros: Tasty, well presented food
Cons: Service, Service, Service.

This place is a gem. Cozy and romantic, it offers multiple seating options to suit your mood and the circumstances -- a back-room hideway, a semi-formal dining room, a long bar for drinkers and solo diners, a lounge area (with a fireplace for those cold winter nights), and two variations of outdoor seating (intimite patio and public sidewalk) for those warm summer and fall evenings. The service was perfectly spot-on, the food was exceptional through all three courses I enjoyed, and the wine was fairly priced (which is to say I got what I paid for). I can't recommend "Black Duck" highly enough, but *don't tell your friends* -- I don't want it to be too crowded for my return visit :)
Pros: Cusine, ambiance, service

Was in the neighborhood to see a play at the Baruch theatre and saw Black duck was close by and decided to take a chance and make res.
When I walked in to a dim rest. I had my doubts but was greeted with a smile and shown immediately to our table. Decor is semi-nautical but tasteful. We each had a diff. appy and entree and all were excellent. I had salad made w/pears and fish of the day which was prepared just right. My husband had steak&fries- which he said was very good and my bro had crab cake appy which looked delicious (he said it was) and wasabil tuna which was cooked to perfection. I would definately return to this rest if we are in the neighborhood again
Pros: service, food,
Cons: bathroom was shared w/hotel and a little hard to locate

Once you walk into this establishment there is an air of relaxed ambiance, which is complimented by a light smattering of a maritime milieu, which does not come off as a kitschy contrivance.. As we placed our orders for the appetizers Chef Tice walked by and stopped by our table to greet our party and suggest some of the day's gastronomic offerings.
Having met him earlier this summer at a charity gala that was catered by many of the city's finer eateries, he was still his cheery, affable self despite the giddy phalanx of patrons streaming in. Besides, his gourmet grail of crab cakes and shrimp alone were enough to goad us into a trip from North Riverdale. As we ordered, one of the stragglers in our party was promptly greeted and seated with our party and we launched into ordering a smorgasbord of surf and turf ,halibut , fillets and steak. All the food was cooked with the immaculate perfection and flavorful nuances that only a "seasoned" chef bestows on every dish. We had our beverages and bread basket refreshed in a timely and non-intrusive manner, which made for a very refreshing dining experience. When it came for time to order dessert Chef Tice happened upon us poring over our menu's visibly flummoxed by all its offerings; suggested a mix of pudding and chocolate cake, which we proceeded to share amongst ourselves, to the delight of all.
What really cinched our night was when the check came we thought all this gourmet food had lulled us into a delusional stupor given the price and service for a party of five. We'll definitely be celebrating more birthday's here. Compared to the myriad of New York's supposedly more august dining establishments, the Black Duck soars above these smarmy peacocks, with the poise and grace of the spartan amphibian it derives its moniker from.
pros- assiduous chef and waitstaff
cons-hard to find
