This is my preferred Whole Foods, largely because the store is all on one level, making both intentional shopping and random browsing much, much easier. It also doesn't have near the traffic jams and lines that I've encountered both at the Union Square and Columbus Circle incarnations. For those of you unfamiliar with Whole Foods, it's often referred to as "whole paycheck" as it's easy to spend a lot of money there very quickly. That said, most of the store brand products are excellent and bargains besides, and with the pricier items -- the quality is great and you couldn't find it anywhere else (i.e., cheddar horseradish spread). The meat and fish counters are especially good, and check out the "two-bite" deserts -- brownies, pecan pie and more.

To me this is by far the best place to buy seafood. I love going here and just checking out what they have in that day and then deciding what to buy. Also, in the winter I love going there to eat one of there seafood stews or soups that are absolutely delisiously and way cheaper and better than one of the soups from Hale and Hearty.

My wife and I have driven from NJ to one exit outside Rhode Island for a great lobster roll lunch. Oh yeah, obviously, we love lobster. So finding a great lobster roll close to home would put a smile on my face. I tried Mary's Fish Camp and her $23 lobster roll wasn't bad but the price will keep me from being a regular customer. My friend said that the Lobster Place had a decent one for half what Mary's charges so I gave it a try. The verdict? An acceptable lobster roll given the price. As for taste, certainly too much celery. The meat was cooked properly but was a little tough (maybe the meat was from an older or larger lobster). The roll was not a classic bun and it wasn't buttered - just OK.
I probably won't go back unless I get desperate for lobster. But it's still an OK lobster roll and I can't see how they do it in NY for the price.

If you're in the mood for seafood, but don't feel like dining out - Leonard's is the answer. This small seafood shop specializes in fish and seafood, while also offering fine cuts of meat on the side if you like a surf 'n turf. The quality of the fish here is significant and evident in the cooking process. This fish is good enough to eat by itself, with no sauces or seasoning. But they give you that option too - providing seasoned fish ready to cook and the sauces to accompany them. Perfect option for when you're feeling like seafood without all the work.

First off, Kidrobot is an awesome store. I've been buying toys there since I've been interested in "urban vinyl." They carry a very wide selection of toys and even have their own lines of toys. The employees at the store are helpful and knowledgeable, and are always able to provide an answer to any question. The only thing is some of their items are marked up slightly higher than it should be, but hey, business is business. Great store. Visit it and you won't regret it.

This is a great fishmonger! They have really great prices and are very well staffed to help the endless stream of people that float in here. There is another fish market one block south, so don't be fooled. Central Fish Market is located in a not so obvious place- one block from the bus ramp into the Port Authority, and one block from a homeless shelter. If you can get past the stragglers and the odd location, you will be rewarded with a great variety of fresh fish. Just recently I walked out with 6 small soft shells for only ten bucks! Word to the wise, don't wear your flip flops here, it is like being on the boat!

This is one of my favorite places in the city to get fresh produce and meats. Everything is fresh and there is a large variety of fruits and vegetables. The meat is always tender and the staff is very helpful. Their are lots of fresh spreads and pickles jars not to mention the mouthwatering pastries that are baked daily. Also, try a slice of their pizza made with their own fresh ingredients. The pizza is not greasy at all and is definitely worth trying.
