More inviting than your usual healthfood store; not as daunting as Whole Foods. Huge health-oriented supermarket with nice produce, lots of ready-to-eat packaged meals, hot soups, juices, just about every brand you can think of in canned and frozen foods and a large vitamin / health and beauty section. Helpful staff, too.

Forget Integral Yoga, it's too funky and too expensive. Forget those small mom-and-pop health food stores, they have no selection and they're even MORE expensive. Lifethyme has everything you need and more: every kind of vitamin and supplement...a wide variety of really great fresh and packaged foods...natural health and beauty aids as well as environmentally safe household cleaning products...a knowledgeable staff...hot and cold prepared foods...the best salad bar in town...a fresh juice bar...and sales that are actually sales (as in good prices, not markups slashed to look like markdowns). I'd like to see "bulk buy" merch in bins on the sales floor rather than in the premeasured packets they sell, but they'll ladle out for you whatever quantities you want of beans, dried fruit, nuts, etc. (the bins are in their basement). Caveat emptor: they do sell meat products (organic) so if you're living the ahimsa lifestyle this place isn't for you.

I love Whole Foods and it makes the Columbus Circle area so much fun. Whole Foods has an amazing selection of produce and meats and packages yummy things - but perhaps the most fun is the prepared foods. There are two huge salad bars with hot and cold salad items including everything from baby spinach to frisee to artichokes to couscous to different kinds of tofu. There is an Indian section of hot food - and the deli counter is amazing - there are sandwiches of all kinds. Ooo! and yummy pizza too! There's a coffee section, a wall of olives - mmm! It's so fun. Sitting, however is a challenge, because it gets really crowded.

Probably the best health food store in the Bergen/Rockland area. Good Earth has a wide selection of the usual things you find in a health food store, from fresh veggies to more nutritious alternatives to snack foods like chips and cookies – but the real reason to visit this place is the juice bar. Fresh vegetable juices are made to order while you watch, with nothing but natural ingredients. (I ordered a carrot juice, and it surprised and pleased me when I got exactly that. Carrots, put through a blender and straight into my cup.) They also have fresh taboule, roasted asparagus, and other such salady things available by the pound.

For those who prefer using natural products over pharmaceutical drugs you must stop by this drug store. Freeda Pharmacy sells prescriptions, herbs, books on naturalistic health and their own brand of supplements. The store has been around since 1928 and is family runned. The owners are always willing to give advice on what kinds of herbs/vitamins you should be taking for whatever ailment you may have.

This is my preferred Whole Foods, largely because the store is all on one level, making both intentional shopping and random browsing much, much easier. It also doesn't have near the traffic jams and lines that I've encountered both at the Union Square and Columbus Circle incarnations. For those of you unfamiliar with Whole Foods, it's often referred to as "whole paycheck" as it's easy to spend a lot of money there very quickly. That said, most of the store brand products are excellent and bargains besides, and with the pricier items -- the quality is great and you couldn't find it anywhere else (i.e., cheddar horseradish spread). The meat and fish counters are especially good, and check out the "two-bite" deserts -- brownies, pecan pie and more.

This little Tribeca pharmacy recently expanded and the interior is now much brighter and more spacious.
For a relatively small drugstore, they have a wide array of OTC medications, creams, cold/allergy pills, etc. and an area where they sell greeting cards and the more organic products like shampoos and creams.
My insurance allows me to fill prescriptions here at a reduced cost. The first time I went, I was a little nervous - it looked like someone's teenage daughter was in charge, and the pharmacy area seemed very small, but she was very on-the-ball, processed my prescription quickly, and, all-in-all, it was a much better experience than the long waits at CVS, and the random Duane Reade support.
