This place isn't like any coffee shop you've ever been to before. The undertones are Brazilian - the music, the drinks, the menu and the servers (among the most beautiful people you'll see in NYC). Try their plantain chips with sauce to start. They also have great coffee shop menu items like burgers, soups, sandwiches etc. When the weather is nice, definitely sit outside. Great people watching in Union Square. This place is a great stand by. They also have a full bar and they're always open.

Does anyone still actually think this place is hip? Boring food, mediocre service (if you're lucky) and an utterly heinous crowd (and not just one type of heinous, but a horrible amalgam of tourists, bridge & tunnel, and D-list celebs who are taking it out on you for not being their fan. No matter how hard you try, you'll wind up eating here eventually, and you'll never stop asking why.

Coffee Shop is so over-hyped. The menu is bizarre and not really Brazilian at all, the prices are high, the waitresses act like they're on an America's Next Top Model audition, and it's noisy beyond belief. If you're looking for a good late-night spot to meet someone of the oposite sex over drinks, it's great, though. It's always lively and fun, but whatever you do, stay away from the meal service.

Even though it carries a high risk of poor service and encounters with attitudinal & pretty people, Coffee Shop is unavoidable, When it comes to the Union Square area. This loungey, inexpensive menu and sidewalk seating make it one of the best casual options in the neighborhood. Every crowded bar, which serves up surprisingly good drinks; and there’s usually a wait for a table at peak times, so plan to hang out on the corner of 16th and Union Square for a bit.
Checkout the basement lounge for great music and intimate setting.

Coffee Shop in union square is not your average coffee shop. Most of the food is the same as what you would find in a good coffee shop, but this is actually a trendy hangout catering to the downtown crowd. The downstairs is more like a lounge playing hip hop music while the upstairs is restaurant style w/ a bar. The drinks are good and in the summer it is a very good scene
