The vibe in here is amazing! Flower Power sells a wide array of herbs, roots and essential oils as well as a small but intelligent selection of herb books. For those interested in aromatherapy, the store sells burnable resins, gums, waxes and leaves for every possible mood and I know I have a lot of moods!

To me this is by far the best place to buy seafood. I love going here and just checking out what they have in that day and then deciding what to buy. Also, in the winter I love going there to eat one of there seafood stews or soups that are absolutely delisiously and way cheaper and better than one of the soups from Hale and Hearty.

If you're a vegetarian, you can probably eat for a week on what you'd get here for twenty bucks. This no frills market under a tent has lots of variety and prices are less than half of what you'd pay elsewhere. They have a good selection of fresh produce, along with sundried tomatoes, honey, pasta, coffee and some baked goods. Sometimes the fruit isn't as cosmetically perfect (A friend calls this place Pathetic Produce.) but more often than not what you'll get here is better than at the grocery. Bonus -- the people who work here are friendly.

I just love Jamba Juice! I first had one of their smoothies in San Francisco many years ago, and was so upset they weren't in New York. When the first one appeared, I was delighted!
My favorite smoothies are the Berry Lime Sublime and the Mango - both with sorbet instead of dairy as the base. I usually add one of their boosts so I feel vitamized, and healthy, a fantastic summer treat! They seem pretty organized, too - place your order, it's prepared in order, and even when crowded, they seem to get your order prepared correctly.

It's so great to have a place to buy all farm fresh dairy products. The ice cream is insane and the yogurt is superb. Sometimes, if you're lucky, they will have their fresh mozzarella in. But the best thing is to buy the farm fresh milk that comes in the cool glass milk bottles that you get with a deposit that is returned to you when you return the bottle to them.

This small seafood shop specializes in fish and seafood, while also offering fine cuts of meat on the side if you like a surf 'n turf. The quality of the fish here is significant and evident in the cooking process. This fish is good enough to eat by itself, with no sauces or seasoning. But they give you that option too - providing seasoned fish ready to cook and the sauces to accompany them. Perfect option for when you're feeling like seafood without all the work.

This place will have everything you are looking for. The fruit and vegetable selection is out of this world. The prices are very good, a lot of times beating the grocery store. Just be warned that they accept cash only, because I don't want to be stuck in line behind you when you have to make a run to the ATM.

Lobel's is another New York institution, and is part of proper grocery shopping (the kind that involves never, ever going into a supermarket). Fantastic cuts of meat, knowledgable staff and fantastic options for special holiday ordering. Chopped liver is a whole 'nother thing when made with liver from Lobel's, and their veal is incredible. If you're looking for something specific, give them a call befor eyou stop in, to make sure it's available that day. Eating meat should be about more than buying something red wrapped in plastic; this is the right way to do it.
