I hate malls, but I love this place. I can't afford anything there, except maybe a book at Borders. But I live two blocks away and I walk through there all the time. They always have great jazz playing in the background and I swear they pump extra oxygen into the air because it always perks me up. On the second floor is a free art gallery that gets great exhibits, including glass sculpture, 3-D photos of Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger, and last year they even had Elton John's piano and wardrobe. And let's not forget those fabulous giant Boteros! The Samsung store has comfy couches in front of giant TVs. The William Sonoma store has lunchtime demos with free samples. You can look out from your choice of balconies, down at the other people or out at Central Park South. And there are 2 secret chairs where you can hang out and not be seen by the people you are watching.

You'd think that the mall in Time Warner's corporate castle in Columbus Circle would be something special. Maybe a bit of downtown 75 blocks north of Soho. But no. What you get are Cache, Coach, Cole Haan, etc. Oh, forgot -- Calvin Klein Underwear too.

Time Warner center is massive as far as shopping center in Manhattan goes. It has high end stores, J Crew, Border's bookstore, Godiva, Whole Foods and a host of super high end restaurants. The view from the mall is fantastic and the best part is it has many lounge chairs where you can people watch. Head down to Whole Foods for some lunch if you get hungry. They have great fresh food.

New York should not have malls. I feel strongly about this. We live here so that we don't need to be subjected to mall culture. Why is mall culture bad? Not because I have a problem with material acquisitiveness, but because it makes shopping boring. At any rate -- the space is nice and clean and the stores are upscale. It's anchored by a Borders (good, not great), a Whole Foods (huge, but not with an easy to navigate layout) and the Samsung Experience (where you can check your email for free). This is utterly not a destination in my eyes, but if you need somewhere to get warm, sit down, or check your email, it's not at all bad for what it is.

The Time Warner Center is a very new establishment at Columbia Circle right across from Trump's Internation Plaza (I think it's called). It houses some very upscale stores and it's pretty pricey, but it's a nice place to walk around. They have a J. Crew, Williams Sonoma, Coach, Borders Books. One of the nice things is that there are lots of places to sit and the second floor has a stage for free performances that take place on ocassion. By far the best part about this place is the Whole Foods downstairs. WHOLE FOODS IS AMAZING! (see review about Whole Foods)
