Murray’s prides itself with sourcing the best cheese in the city. So its no surprise they also make fine sandwiches like the smoked mozzarella panini ($5.95). Basil, sun dried tomato and balsamic vinaigrette top sumptuous cheese from Joe’s Dairy. The chef then uses a panini press to melt the sandwich to perfection. Murray’s has an inviting bench out front of their shop for those who just can’t wait to dive in!
There's also a mind boggling selection of cheese to purchase by the pound.

East Village Cheese does not look like much from the outside. But once you step inside, you are in cheese heaven. There is a cheese deli, where the staff are ready to cut you a hunk of any type of cheese in stock---which is any imaginable! They also have a refrigerated case with butter, Greek yogurt, and cheese specials. For a long time, they had Boursin for $1.75! In the grocery stores, it is $5.99!
They also have an olive bar and a small grocery with many types of jams and crackers, as well as fresh breads and rolls.
The prices are so cheap, you think it is 1972 when you get your final bill. All the cheeses are fresh and top quality.

they got all kinds of cheese. whats nice about a real cheese shop is that you dont have to walk out with a big oversized hunk like you do for the prepackaged stuff in the supermarket. they also break off little pieces to give you samples so you shouldnt be disappointed when you get home. if youre throwing a party or something they'll assemble a great platter. they also have some other cheese related knick-knacks like spreads, crackers and juices/drinks.

Some places talk gourmet, act gourmet, look gourmet...but are they really gourmet? This place IS gourmet, even though it might not look like it at first glance. This is a simple store with no semblance of decor and a sometimes surly staff who are extremely knowledgeable. But understand that the food here is what matters, nothing else.
It is definitely on a smaller scale compared to other food shops, but the produce, cheeses, and pastas here are unbelievable. Cuts of cured Italian meats will probably never make it to your fridge, as you'll be sneaking a slice here and a slice there, until it's gone by the time you get home.

I'm not a big fan of dairy products but, if you are, Joe's Dairy is the place for you. Their assortment of cheeses is amazing but better yet all of it is old-fashioned and handmade. Everyone who's ever been to Joe's seems to rave about their fresh mozzarella.
There's also a charm to Joe's, no doubt due to its long history and passion for creating some of the most renowned cheese in NYC.
