I go to Earth kind of a lot for lunch. it is 50% off if you eat in instead of doing take out. The service is fast and the food is very good. I highly reccomend this restaurant for lunch if you are in the area.
Pros: 50% off lunch!

This bar is nothing special. It's tiny and gets very overcrowded. They do have drink specials every night, so if that's what you're looking for you'll love it. They also have darts and a pool table in the back. It's a college bar, mostly so expect a young crowd.

...is called Divine Bar and it's one of 2 in the city. This one is right on 51st street on the east side. The other one is on 54th street. There was one down down on Nassau Stree pre 9/11 that remained open shortly after.
This place will be more cowded than Mica bar but it also has other things to offer like an extensive wine list of 65 "by the glass" varieties and 50 international beers.
I haven't spent as much time here as others so can't go as in depth as I have before..

I went into this friendly little bar a few months ago on my birthday. I had such a good time with Dave I just couldn't stay away. Since then I've gotten to know everyone. Dermot, Adrienne, Aaron, they're all the greatest. A good crowd, a great beer selection (leave room for shots of whiskey) great jukebox, and totally unpretentious. Just a great little bar in a great big city (something that's not so easy to find these days).
Pros: Great service, great beers.
Cons: Can get busy. Stay a little later for the real fun.

If you're looking for a great place to take a date and of course for excellent jazz, then this is the place. They are always crowded on the weekends, and especially when they invite famous jazz players to come. So I'd recommend getting your tickets in advance and showing up a bit earlier so that you can get a good seat. The food is mediocre, but the blue note isn't known for their food, but more of the ambience. I wish the place was a bit bigger, but the acoustics would probably be bad for those in the rear. The full bar is great, and there's no smoking which is also excellent. Overall, I'd recommend for singles, but definitely for couples.

Got a game at The Garden and you've got time to kill after work before heading in? Mustang Harry's is the ideal spot. With a pretty good selection of beers and a full pub-style menu with a twist, everyone in the crew will be satisfied.
Of note in particular are the burgers. Before I discovered the burgers, I came here and was reasonably happy with whatever I chose to eat. But once I had the burger...I haven't strayed since. Looooove the burgers and the best part is - you don't have to wait for a table!

When you're in the mood for restaurant fare, and not in the mood for Asian food (which, down in Tribeca/Chinatown, has more coverage than Starbucks) Walker's is a great treat. They have classic burgers, tuna melts, fish & chips, soups, salads, etc. It's almost always crowded at lunchtime, so best to get there early. I love the grilled Tuna Nicoise wrap, and the various fish entrées are pretty good, too. You can't go wrong with a burger, and, if you're in the mood for a liquid lunch, you've found the right place! There are 3 dining rooms - the front is by the bar area, largest room, but you'll deal with people walking in and out the whole time - in the back are 2 smaller rooms which I find more relaxing.

We sort of stumbled upon Merchants and had a great time. It's a great date place. We had a room almost all to ourselves in front of the fireplace. It could be the ideal romantic evening, but also seems like a nice place to hang out with friends. The food is excellent. We had the grilled tuna and it was fabulous!

More
My girlfriend Liz (of Madrid & the Canary Islands) had her birthday dinner here a couple of years ago and I became hooked. Great tapas, delicious sangria that wasn't too-too sweet, and a long bar just waiting for folks to settle in for the night.
You might think, how did this work for a birthday dinner as y'all sat at a bar? We had different tapas plates served at different seats and mingled to get to the various foods while chit-chatting with the others who congregated around a particular plate. It made for a nice night of grazing/mixed conversation and was one of the more interesting parties at a bar I have been to in New York (she didn't rent the space out -- we just kind of took over).
For a while after the party I tried to find the joint when I was in Soho to no avail. Finally, I wised up and looked for the address so that I could burn it into my memory for future reference. Sometimes I just crave some good small plates...
