The New York Helmsley Hotel, one of the Helmsley hotel chain, was just the perfect answer to what we had been looking for. We had stayed at the Park Lane a few times in the past and even that hotel, one of Leona Helmsleys finest, didnt seem to be that much more impressive, except for the views from one side of the building which overlook Central Park.
The location was superb, the service and staff were overly attentive, helpful and friendly while the room was impeccable. Yes, I think Leona really has her act together.
Upon arrival,we were greeted by the most accommodating and friendly desk clerk who found our reservation immediately. When I asked for a room on a high floor with a good view, specifically of the Chrysler Building, that I spotted just up the street, she told us there was one that would be available but wasnt ready at the moment. With a smile she then told us it was one of the newly refurbished rooms and asked if we wouldnt mind waiting for about an hour. Of course not, we told her and left our luggage with one of the Bellmen to lock away while we went for a walk and for a bite to eat.
The room itself was very impressive, not overly large but large enough and very well appointed with a comfortable bed and everything was sparkling clean. It even had a plasma tv!
The location was superb and just a short walk to nearly all Midtown New York attactions.. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again
PROS: Convenient to major New York attractions..great rooms
CONS: none

I stayed here with my girlfriend for just a weekend getaway. Since it is in the financial district the rooms were priced phenomenally during the weekend and we got upgraded without even having to ask. The service was quick and prompt, they clearly are used to a great cliental. One thing. When you stay on the weekends, not many trains run down there so you will be taking taxies back. That is the only negative. This being said since it is empty on the weekends it is very romantic.
Pros: Great rooms and service.
Cons: Location if you don't have business on Wall St.

Incredible!
This is a modern, sleek destination in the middle of it all. You've come to expect a Heavenly Bed in Westins but this one has an executive section that has a bit larger room, not a bad deal in Manhattan, and breakfast. The subway underneath it makes low cost transportation easy. Of course there are cabs and town cars aplenty as well. Theaters are all around and there's even convenient pharmacies and outside food sources as well.
The gym was very good for a hotel, the breakfast at the club lounge aslo good. The room was modern, but felt slightly sterile because of the white everywhere.
we travel alot and i must say i have found no better~

More
I recently told you all about Peter Luger Steakhouse and that everyone needs to go there to experience a great steak experience in NY. Here's another: Morton's. Originally Morton's of Chicago, it is now a semi-chain but don't be fooled by that. It's not like it's an Outback. It's still up there in the New York Steakhouse rankings with Luger and places like Sparks, Smith and Wollensky, Keen's, etc.
Morton's offers a unique experience, not so much in the dining the way a place like Plataforma does, but in the ordering. You can get a menu if you like, but there's no need. Your waiter will bring over a large cart and one it... are raw steaks! You can see the difference between a Porterhouse, Ribeye and Filet Mignon, etc. The waiter will explain the difference in the cuts as far as flavor, tenderness, the best degree of cooking and so on. But for you seafood lovers there are also live lobsters nearby. With the steaks you use these "samples" to pick your cut, but he lobsters are different. You get to pick your actual lobster.
So you're just finished looking through your choices and ordering and you'll be asked - Will you be having dessert with us this evening? The first time I was there, I thought "Does this guy realize which table he's at? I just ordered my entree." Come to find out the reason is because they have the best dessert on the planet there. You may have seen these molten lava chocolate cakes at the Ruby Tuesday and Chili's type places. Well Morton's has one of their own. The reason they ask if you want dessert up front is because while you're eating your meal, they're actually baking this cake fresh. So it arrives still warm, incredibly moist with a good size dollup of vanilla ice cream in the crater on top. If that's not enough to make you go get one now, here's the surprise, when you cut into it, melted chocolate spills out the side. If memory serves, it was Godiva but don't quote me on that part.
Aside from all the fun of choosing your lobster and seeing raw steaks table side, the food is also very good. A good steak is a good steak and you can get them in a good many places around the city, but the ordering process is real different. Definitely changes things up from the normal routine of a steakhouse.

We went there with a reservation for a regular room, but were upgraded to a small suite. The room was fantastic and spacious, and included a computer & fax machine, separate eating area, and large beautiful bath.
The location can't be better. It sits on the corner of Central Park South and 5th Avenue, centrally located for all of your tourist activities.
We ordered roomservice several times, and the service is white glove. The food was amazing. We would love to return to this hotel! Highly recommend!

More
We recently stayed at the Econo Lodge Times Square during the US Open. This is a bare bones kind of place, but nonetheless rooms were clean, staff was helpful and the hotel is just around the corner from a lot of good restaurants on 46th Street and also on 9th Ave. Also very closeby to the subway. Only drawback was the room was VERY tiny (the bathtub was about 3/4 the size of your standard tub), but you come to expect this with the budget hotels in Times Square. Fortunately, we didn't spend a lot of time in the room, so this wasn't a problem for us.
Pros: Proximity to restaurants and public transportation
Cons: Small room

Buffet lunch has very limited selection and the quantity of food display is minimal. Environment is rather noisy, a lot of senior tourists sit around and talk a lot. A bit of "fast food restaurant environment for Waldorf price" feel.
