We went there with a reservation for a regular room, but were upgraded to a small suite. The room was fantastic and spacious, and included a computer & fax machine, separate eating area, and large beautiful bath.
The location can't be better. It sits on the corner of Central Park South and 5th Avenue, centrally located for all of your tourist activities.
We ordered roomservice several times, and the service is white glove. The food was amazing. We would love to return to this hotel! Highly recommend!

More
I recently told you all about Peter Luger Steakhouse and that everyone needs to go there to experience a great steak experience in NY. Here's another: Morton's. Originally Morton's of Chicago, it is now a semi-chain but don't be fooled by that. It's not like it's an Outback. It's still up there in the New York Steakhouse rankings with Luger and places like Sparks, Smith and Wollensky, Keen's, etc.
Morton's offers a unique experience, not so much in the dining the way a place like Plataforma does, but in the ordering. You can get a menu if you like, but there's no need. Your waiter will bring over a large cart and one it... are raw steaks! You can see the difference between a Porterhouse, Ribeye and Filet Mignon, etc. The waiter will explain the difference in the cuts as far as flavor, tenderness, the best degree of cooking and so on. But for you seafood lovers there are also live lobsters nearby. With the steaks you use these "samples" to pick your cut, but he lobsters are different. You get to pick your actual lobster.
So you're just finished looking through your choices and ordering and you'll be asked - Will you be having dessert with us this evening? The first time I was there, I thought "Does this guy realize which table he's at? I just ordered my entree." Come to find out the reason is because they have the best dessert on the planet there. You may have seen these molten lava chocolate cakes at the Ruby Tuesday and Chili's type places. Well Morton's has one of their own. The reason they ask if you want dessert up front is because while you're eating your meal, they're actually baking this cake fresh. So it arrives still warm, incredibly moist with a good size dollup of vanilla ice cream in the crater on top. If that's not enough to make you go get one now, here's the surprise, when you cut into it, melted chocolate spills out the side. If memory serves, it was Godiva but don't quote me on that part.
Aside from all the fun of choosing your lobster and seeing raw steaks table side, the food is also very good. A good steak is a good steak and you can get them in a good many places around the city, but the ordering process is real different. Definitely changes things up from the normal routine of a steakhouse.

We go to NYC with some regularity and nearly always encounter some problems with the accomodations. New York is expensive, so that is a given. But the worst part of visiting NYC is being lumped together with tourists, even if you are one! For visitors who used to live here and understand the city, we don't want to stay in some chain in Times Square. We want a real, residential NYC experience. The Gem provides that. It is understated, comfortable, quiet, friendly and well appointed. If you are looking for some kind of palatial suite with lots of amenities, then this isn't your hotel. But if you just want a peaceful place to hang your hat which is near great restaurants and public trans in a residential area, then consider the Gem.
Pros: Accomodations, location, toiletries

NYC Caterers continually does a great job of having our event run smoothly and stress free. The service was great throughout the day of our long conference. The staff are professional and personable. Set up, serving the food, and breaking down all moved along nicely and the food was great. This is very important on a day like this when there is so much going on and things can go wrong. We could really count on NYC Caterers and highly recommend them.

$199 per night on a weekend can't be beat. They allowed us to check in early after arriving on a red eye from the west cost. Free breakfast was good. Just get up early to avoid the line. The rooms were modern, clean and very spacious. Easy acess to rest of the city by cab or train. Book the AAA rate and save. Well worth it.
Pros: Price, Room Size, Breakfast
Cons: Parking

More 2 years ago
My husband and I travel to Madison Square Garden every year for the Big East Basketball Tournament. We're never in our rooms so need no amenities. Hotels nearer the Garden are over-priced and dirty. This Comfort Inn is a short walk away and was perfect. We used our AAA discount to get a very good rate. The front desk staff was very friendly. Our room was ready early in the morning of our arrival so the staff let us check in early. The room was small, but large enough for a small table and 2 chairs. It was fairly quiet, too. The heat was very low, but we kept the room darkening shades closed to keep out cold air from outside. The weather outside was 50 degrees; if it had been a cold snap, the room may have been uncomfortably cold. As with all Comfort Inns, breakfast was included, which helps with the budget, too. We found the location great for our travels, too, with its close proximity to subway stops. I recommend this hotel highly if you're looking for a good quality bargain.
