Go for the view, not for the food. The food was overpriced and mediocre during dinner time. The buffet lunch was slightly better but I didn't think there were all that many choices. If you want to enjoy the view and not pay all that money during dinner time, go for a drink instead! The drink prices are regular Manhattan prices.

The Rainbow Room is truly a wonderful place. Come here at night time and get a table and drinks. Make sure you get a seat by the window because on a clear night you can see miles away. The view is spectacular and place is really pretty. If you are going on a first date this would make for a very romantic evening.

you can either pay a boat load to go to the observation deck, and be given nothing tasty to drink... or you can bite the bullet, pay the 20$ a drink and enjoy it on one floor below the expensive observation deck. be careful with your chairs.... The last time I was there, I saw no less than three men break the legs right off their chairs when they were trying to lean back or push back their chairs to get up. The first time I thought the waiter was just being polite when he said "it happens all the time," but... then it happened twice more in the next hour. so I guess it really DOES happen all the time.
