Payard is a French Bistro and Patisserie that is thought throughout the land (the upper east land) to be the best pastry around. The restaurant is very good - moderate to expensive with classic french fare and pretentous waitstaff, and the pastry area is wonderful. Miranda on Sex and the City couldn't stay away either during her man-less chocolate obsession phase. It's definitely worth checking out and treating yourself or someone you love to one of their $85 chocolate cakes.

I have not had the pleasure of tea at Payard (although I have heard that it is good), but have delighted in coffee and pastry here as well as take-out cake. There is so much to choose from if you are in the mood for a sugary overload. The prices are steep, so think before ordering a cake for your 3 year-old's birthday party.

I can't find fault with much here, really. It is a French bistro, so the attitude of the waiters and such is right at home, I suppose (never been to France). But the prices are quite high (once again, it fits with the bistro motif) for the little bit you receive. I would like more space to eat, but as they say, when in France... (I know, it's Rome). The raspberry napolean is TOO DIE, though.

This place is an utter disappointment. The baked goods are absolutely nothing to speak of. Sure, everything looked really, really pretty, but that only counts for so much. Everything just tasted like it was all pure sugar and that overpowered any of what should be the subtlety of fresh baked pastries and cakes.

this is an awesome bakery on the upper east side of manhattan. Try the out of this world confections here. I like to go here often to hang out and enjoy some sweet treats for myself, it's a nice experience especially during the summer. Keep in mind this bakery is the best place for all of your french favorites (you know what I mean) and it stays open late so have no fear if you have a craving after hours.

this is an authentic french bistro to its core! this full service restaurant offers numerous options -- afternoon tea, goodies at the patisserie counter, drinks at the bar, or lunch and dinner in the dining room. it's almost impossible to decide what to order on this menu. and you absolutely must save room for dessert!!! prices are high and service is professional. this place has made a name for itself in the city!
