Although I enjoyed my food at this small spot of Sullivan Street, I felt it was overpriced for both my meager meal and the dreadful service. Presentation was lacking (mesclun dropped onto a chinette plate doesn't equal $2 to me) and I waited a full 10 minutes for my zucchini tart to be heated up. Luckily, I loved the taste of both the tart and the tart lemonade I ate with it.
There is a 30 minute limit for each table (they claim it is strictly enforced - I didn't stick around to test it). There are two tiny tables outdoors & a bathroom for customers.
Good food, but maybe you should get it to go (as I did with a wonderful little apple tart...the perfect size to share with a loved one).

My wife and I love to explore NYC on Sunday mornings. Early Sunday mornings. We love the feeling that we are the only people out and about, discovering secrets that the sleepy heads are missing.
Once Upon a Tart is a bakery we discovered on one of our jaunts. It's hard to describe the kind of baked goods they sell here except to say that they sell, um, tarts. Really good tarts. Make that crazy good tarts.
Fruit, chocolate, sugar and flaky crusts taken to new levels of excellence.
You have to go and experience a unique taste fantasy. I wish I had one of their peach creations right now.

I love this place! I stumbled upon it about a year ago and I had the best tart. Then I came back and I had the best sandwich. I think I went back a third time because it was so good! They have excellent coffee and that sandwich was mmmm! I think it had goat cheese and radiccio and portobello mushrooms on a yummy roll. Mmmmm! I highly recommend it!

Once upon a tart is a real neighborhood place where you can go anytime during the day to take the edge off of that hunger you are feeling. If you can't hang out at the store they have take out and they do catering.
I have a friend who was so addicted to the scones that she was going every morning to get one with a non-Starbucks cup of coffee. It took an intervention to get her to cut down on her habit.
Take a look at their menu and you'll see there is a lot more than breakfast fare and it isn't expensive in spite of the Soho address.

Seriously. The muffins are delicious, moist and full of firm, sweet fruit. And the sandwiches are also fantastic. The tuna salad is the best I've ever tasted. The roast pork is moist and flavorful. Even the simplest of rolls is something special. The store has both an eat-in side (featuring some sidewalk tables that are a great people-watching perch in this interesting, quaint neighborhood) as well as take out. Steps from the large stores of Soho, this cafe is set on a slightly quieter street that allows a respite from the frentic pace of its neigboring retail oasis. Soho has a huge variety of restaurants and food stores, but Once Upon A Tart is something truly special.
