Yay, I can finally write about this place! I found Niwaka online after looking for a Japanese jeweler since I like the simple yet unique style of Japanese jewelry. My boyfriend (oops I mean fiance) and I went here back in October since we had found them online, liked what we saw, but wanted to see the rings in person.
The website says that Niwaka is the Tiffany's of Japan, but most Japanese people I mentioned the name to have not heard of it. I don't know if they are not in the know or what. They have excellent quality of everything from the stones to the white gold/platinum blend they use for most of their rings. You definitely have to pay a premium for it, but to us knowing that the quality is guaranteed was worth it. Unlike some of the comments I read on message boards about this place, we were able to see the actual diamond that was to be set in the ring so we knew exactly what we were getting.
I was very impressed by the service we received here. The store is located just off 5th Avenue near the Rockefeller Center and I was afraid that the people were going to be very pretentious. The woman (Arina) who helped us was very nice and was patient to answer all of our questions. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a unique, but simple setting. It's been 3 weeks since we're gotten engaged and I still can't looking at my beautiful ring!
*Be warned though that most of the settings are made for less than a 1 carat stone as this is the preference for most Japanese women.
Pros: Friendly service and great selection

They will take the time to explain each item to you, and everything has a freshness date on it.
They wrap everything in a little bag for you, and treat everything with great pride.
The food is just delicious, and if you're not going to Japan anytime soon, definitely stop by here to taste some traditional sweet delicacies!
