One of my favorite places to eat. 1/18/2012

I have been to The Modern three times and have enjoyed the experience every time. Last time I sat in the Bar Room which is a little more casual but the food is just as good. I would say it's just noisier in there and perhaps easier to get a seat. I ordered tuna tartar as an appetizer and tagliatelle with rabbit ragout. I expected the sauce to be tomato based but instead it was lite. I've never had a meat ragout that was light in color but it was delicious. The decor is modern, as the name says, and the service was impeccable. The only complaint I have is that the portions were on the smaller side. But it was made up for in flavor. I really enjoy dining at The Modern and find that the food consistently meets my expectations. more

If you want modern art, this is the right place 11/12/2009

Modern art is not really my style but i can appreciate it as a form of art and therefore think it is a great place to observe it. The MOMA has a great variety and collection of moderm art. One may take it for granted if you have not entered a modern art museum in a different city. You could easily spend a day here and there are often special exhibits that are featured. A must see -- at least once -- even if you don't like modern art so much. more

Love it 4/23/2009

Love the rooms with abstract objects, toys, day to day things people made them into interesting things. Large lamp, basket balls in the tank etc. Lots of famous paintings are often exhibited here as well. If you are in NY, you should at least come here once. It may be overrated after a while, but Moma is the place to be. more

MOMA 4/14/2006

The Museum of Modern Art is clearly different from something like the Met or Frick Collection. It's very contemporary and MODERN artish (duh). Lots of things on shape and space and stuff like that. They have excellent exhibits every once in awhie and those are the ones that are really worth going to, because their permanent collection isn't that great. more

Modern Art 4/5/2006

The Museum of Modern Art has exhibits from the likes of Dali, Warhol and Piccasso. The museum itself is a work of art. Notice the architecture such as the arrangement of the stairs. The painting sections are very roomy and have the right lighting to bring out the features of each painting. Photos are allowed as long as no flash is used. There is an admission fee, but if you go to the museum on Fridays after 4pm you will get in for free (compliments of Target). Art From All Times more

MOMA 3/25/2006

The museum of modern art is one of the weirdest, existensial and interesting museums in New York. If you can afford the twenty dollar admission fee or if you don't mind waiting until after 4pm on Fridays for the free admission drop by and take a look around. You can look at artworks by famous artists Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollack. Or you can stop by their gift shop and load up on interesting stocking stuffers for Christmas. more

Better than Ever 3/9/2006

The recent renovation has made MoMA so much better than before it moved to Queens. Modern art is not for everyone - in fact, I don't qualify everything in here as art, but there is ENOUGH choices for all different types of people to make MoMA worth a visit. Picasso, Giacometti, Warhol, Munch, Pollock, O'Keefe, Sherman, Hopper -- the list goes on & on... Especially on Fridays when Target sponsors free admission from 4pm-8pm. How can one argue with that? At least give it a chance. more

Overrated 9/19/2005

The museum of modern art truly has a wonderful collection of, dare I say it, modern art; however, it is so easy to disagree with the museum's definition of art that I cannot give a high rating to this museum. Add this to the fact that the museum is more crowded and charges higher than usual admission and it just does not make the grade as the best museum or even a must see museum in New York City. more

great museum 9/7/2005

So MoMA is back, and it's huge. It has several floors, a garden, at least one restaurant and a store. They have a wide variety of art, from the older classic modern artists to the full collection of Andy Warhol's Cambell Soup can paintings to some interestingly designed chairs. Going to the store is an event in itself--besides the standard prints and postcards, it is chock full of great decorative and useful pieces by modern designers. The drawback to all of this is that it costs 20 dollars a pop to get into the museum now, and the store isn't cheap either. A membership is a good investment if you plan on going a few times througout the year (and, if you get a family membership, you can bring people with you for free every time). more

Perfect for the modern art fan 8/31/2005

Avoid the crowds by taking in some lesser known, and in my personal opinion, more impressive pieces. WIth a travelling exhibition space on the top floor, I am sure to return at least every few months for my expressionism fix. Be sure to check out the design store across the street as well. Fabulous- if wholly unpractical- pieces wait within. The museum is free on Fridays from 4-8, but it's sure to be crowded. Go later that evening to avoid the touristy crowd. more

worth the wait for great art in a beautiful space 8/21/2005

Wow! The view from the top floors looking down at that wonderful Monet (water lilies) and seeing the crowds below is just breathtaking. The beautifully designed MOMA was worth the wait (MOMA had moved to Queens while the old building in Manhattan was renovated) and what a renovation it is. They have a wonderful garden and a solid collection of great artists including Cezanne, Van Gogh and Monet. They also have great modern collections (most recently, a very avant-garde photographer whose work included vulgar nudes but hey, it's art). Worth a trip especially on Fridays when the museum admission is free (yay!) thanks to Target. Otherwise, $20 is a bit steep (more expensive than the Met). more

Finally.... 8/18/2005

It's back, better than before. While the Queens incarnation of MoMA was an interesting diversion, the recently re-opened 53rd street site is everything it promised and then some. The space itself is magnificently designed to showcase the collection and the collection is, of course, a revelation. It's a delight to see old favorites in new spaces and, while some may quibble that Monet's water lilies are dwarfed in their new home, it's pointless to find fault when masterpieces confront you at every turn. more

a must visit 8/17/2005

I've been to MoMA several times and must admit that each visit has been uniquely experienced. This is because this museum has much to offer--amazing photography and one-of-a-kind sculptures that leave one feeling perplexed or amazed...or both! Different artists come for special exhibitions so visit the website for that information. Whether you're in love with modern art or not, there is a wide range of interpretations and mediums to suit varied tastes. more

Dont go with your kids 8/17/2005

This museum is a very nice art museum of modern art. But its got disgusting floors like you were walking into a junkyard. Theres all different nice exhibits and stuff on the show floor. I highly recommend. Don't ever go with your kids. They will yell and scream till they get out of there. more

Completely worth the time in line and the expense 8/17/2005

I've been to MOMA 2 or 3 times since it reopened in Manhattan and had a wonderful experience each time. The new building itself is beautifully designed with a pretty garden in its center. There are numerous collections of art in almost all exciting mediums. I especially enjoyed the impressionist and surrealist works in the upper floors. Definitely worth waiting in line with the tourists. more

Worth it at least once 8/16/2005

The renovation is reason enough to visit the Moma, whose insides are an art project in itself. Many of the floors, however, can definitely be skipped: I felt like I was walking through a garage sale on the modern artifact floor. The paintings and full floor exhibits were worth seeing, as many famous pieces are displayed. To truly appreciate the entire museum, though, you would need to be a tested connoisseur of modern art. For an extra treat, check out the top floor, which sometimes has full wall exhibits. more

... but I just don't like modern art. Every few years I try to go back here to see if there is something I'll like but it just never happens. I love the Met, the Whitney and others but I really just hate modern art - so pretentious and affected. I guess if you like Modern art you'll like the MOMA - it's a well laid out, calm museum. more

This museum is filled with unconventional art. There are some really interesting pieces. There is a large selection of Picasso and van Gogh also. The museum was recently renovated and it is huge. Plan on spending a while here and coming back at another time to really see it all. Friday nights after 5 are free. more

Depends on the taste 8/4/2005

Personally I am a big fan of early 16th century paintings of death, destruction, and Rome. I like the paintings that build upon reality. However, for those who like the more modern and abstract art, this is the place for you. It is in a large, newly renovated, building which happens to look rather nice. Keep in mind while this is a great place to take a date it is no place to take children. more

Fun Art Museum 8/4/2005

I honestly do not really understand that much about modern art, but this museum is a fun and hip place to visit. Pieces here are pretty different from what you would expect at a “regular” art museum. Ticket prices are inexpensive, and you can probably get a group rate. They have at least two locations in New York, one of which I believe is in Queens, but I have only been to one location. more
