Forget Integral Yoga, it's too funky and too expensive. Forget those small mom-and-pop health food stores, they have no selection and they're even MORE expensive. Lifethyme has everything you need and more: every kind of vitamin and supplement...a wide variety of really great fresh and packaged foods...natural health and beauty aids as well as environmentally safe household cleaning products...a knowledgeable staff...hot and cold prepared foods...the best salad bar in town...a fresh juice bar...and sales that are actually sales (as in good prices, not markups slashed to look like markdowns). I'd like to see "bulk buy" merch in bins on the sales floor rather than in the premeasured packets they sell, but they'll ladle out for you whatever quantities you want of beans, dried fruit, nuts, etc. (the bins are in their basement). Caveat emptor: they do sell meat products (organic) so if you're living the ahimsa lifestyle this place isn't for you.

I have to go there every single time I visit New York, and while the place always smells like ginsing and other bitter roots. The little tea shop still makes the best bubble tea outside of Asia.
It's about $4 dollars for cup, but they're in like 16oz glasses! It's cold, and sweet and perfect for the summer. And don't worry if you don't speak english, everyone who works back there are multilingual.

Commodities has more items in stock than almost any other health food store around, perhaps besides Whole Foods, but the aisles are very cramped and the prices are not cheap! This is one of the few places you can get a large selection of organic bulk dry goods and spices. The beauty and herb section is pretty extensive too.

I highly recommend visiting the office of Dr.Shoshany if you are in need of chiropractic care. The office is pristine and the staff is friendly and curteous 100% of the time. Dr.Shoshany genuinely cares about his patients and after a comprehensive exam, he offers real solutions to the problem and does not rush you in and out like most other offices do. He is a pro with adjustments and David absolutely rocks with the Graston technique (which I also highly recommend!!!). If you are seeking real results and pain relief, look no further than Dr. Shoshany's office!

Whole Earth Bakery is all vegan and kosher, so most people can find something to eat there. I recommend staying away from the chocolate stuff if you really like sweet chocolatey stuff, because it is made with fruit juice instead of sugar and isn't very sweet. However, I love all the fruit things they make, like turnovers, pies and interesting raw cups of fruit and cashew butter. They also have pizza and smoothies and make made-to-order cakes for special occasions. The owner and workers are all really nice and I recommend checking out this bakery and supporting them.

This large somewhat untidy health food store has a wide variety of health food products plus lots of vitamins (many discounted), a full line of Burts Bees skin care and beauty products as well as other brands, various juices, a small selection of fresh organic produce and frozen vegies, soy cereal, different kinds of honey etc. etc. September specials include organic applesauce $2.19/4 pack, and Annie's organic pasta & cheese $1.69/box. Fun to just wander around and see what tickles your fancy!

Angelica's has more herbs in stock than any other place around, but the service can be quite strange and gruff. You're not allowed to take any notes, photos, or audio recordings in the store (guess they're worried someone will steal their "proprietary" herb knowledge), and once you get a prescription from the proprietress, you better damn well follow it! Pricey too.
