I saw the previous reviews for this place and decided to have my setting appraised there since they did not sell jewelry nor diamonds. There was a choice of a verbal appraisal or a written appraisal. The gemologist explained things in detail and answered all my questions and was able to give me wholesale and retail values for my items. The building has security and the place has cameras so it felt safe. Absolutely no sales pressure and they deal with people without any previous knowledge and they also appraise for jewelers.
Pros: Done right on spot in less than 1 hour, independent gemologist
Cons: ?they dont recommend specific jewelers?

I been going to this place to get my taxes done for years. They do a very good job. I am one of those lazy people who always wait till the last minute to get my taxes done. Even though they are especially busy during tax season I am always able to get my taxes done the same day. I just drop it off in the morning and I can usually pick it up in the afternoon. I leave them my cell phone number and if it's finished earlier they will call me so I can pick it up.

I get my taxes done through this firm. They are very professional and when I submit my taxes through them I am getting all my deductions and I will never have to worry about an audit, because they really know their stuff. This is not a cheap firm but they are good and know how to treat a client.

Commerce Bank moved into NYC with many free services. You can open a no fee checking account (no minimum balance first yr, then keep $100 minimum balance). Super convenient - it is open every day and has evening hours (until 8 PM M-F!). If you are 50 or over, you also get free checks, free notary, free money orders and a free safe deposit box if one is available. They also have a no-fee machine that counts your change and gives you a slip to cash in at the teller. You even get back the ATM fees charged when taking money out of non-Commerce Bank if you keep $2500 in your checking account. They give out free red "C" shaped banks and there is always free candy - usually red lollipops. Courteous staff.

...And your money! Ask for Steve, he is the main man running the show, which can get quirky but entertaining. You will never get him on the phone, but if you call far enough in advance, you will get an appointment with him, and he is a reliable emailer if you have questions. The office is *almost* a dump, (Steve could care less about what people think) and be prepared to spend a couple of hours waiting if your appointment is around tax time- this man is extremely popular with those who hire him. While you wait remind yourself that Steve is in fact a pro and those couple of hours spent waiting will be an investment in your sanity! Reasonable prices set on a sliding scale, this is the place to get your taxes done.

If you enjoy browsing or buying art and antiques, and have an interest in asian art, particularly from Japan, this is a beautiful gallery to visit. They have a changing exhibits, so likely there will be something new everytime you visit. It is a great way to really understand history, and these artifacts are breathtaking, especially with their attention to detail.

I used them this year for taxes. Small shop, but you get the personal attention. Dont plan on getting any tax tips, also dont plan on getting audited. They work well, a bit slow, but its nice to have someone who actually knows your business. One of those places you could see your self staying on for some time.

I've been using these guys for about a year or so for all my financial needs. They can help you pick funds and stocks or you can pick your own. Most of the funds have pretty high load fees, but thats standard at these places. I also got soem good stock advice and decent amount of financial advisory. They help you plan your retirement, kids colllege funds, etc.
