I enjoy eating at Charley's. They have great all-American food with friendly servers and delicious, large portioned food. One of my favorites for lunch is the clam chowder in the bread bowl. The bread is just as good as the clam chowder. It is alway steaming hot with lots of clams and potatoes. The bread is just delicious too. The rueben is also one of my favorites, and their french fries are always great that come with the sandwich. They load the grilled bread with just enough meat and condiments, not overloading but not skimping either. It's just right. Sometimes there is a wait, especially on weekend evenings, but I think it is worth the wait.

When our kids moved out, we realized our 115-year-old Victorian was too much for two people. But we loved the house and we loved the location, so we decided to turn it into a legal 2-family with a separate suite where we could work and see clients (she's a writer; I'm a sound engineer). We'd done other commercial and residential projects before, and knew what we could afford. So we talked to a LOT of architects.

MSH impressed us from the start. When I walked the premises with other architects, they'd nod and say 'hmmm'... and then launch into their stock presentations. Marc understood what we were trying to do, and immediately started making his own suggestions - ones we hadn't thought of - to use the space even better. Then he talked about what he'd done previously that actually applied to us. So after checking and due diligence, we gave him the job.

Before he started, Marc showed up with an assistant and portable drawing board and took exact measurements of every detail: nooks, inside closets, even where a wall changed thickness by an inch. He then made computerized drawings that could have built a perfect clone of our existing house. I'd never seen a architect do this for a residential renovation... but because he did, the dreaded phrase 'Verify in Field' never showed up on our plans. So the contractors were never left scratching their heads or coming to us with expensive, unexpected problems.

After he gave us his first designs, he spent a long time listening to what we didn't love, and finding ways to do what we wanted... while also applying his own sensibilities, solid building practice, and a healthy respect for local codes. As a sound engineer, my workspace had specific needs. He took my suggestions for soundproofing and acoustics, and incorporated them into a clean functional design.

He then repeated the process with our contractors and their plumber and electrician, seeing what could make life easier (and cheaper) for them, and building solutions into the final plans.

While our house is Victorian, it had been badly treated over the decades and we couldn't afford restoring its 19th century glory. So we left the exterior alone, and asked Marc to make the interior functional, modern, and nice... which is exactly what he did. The project went beautifully, we've been happy with our living and working spaces, and the apartment rented immediately (for more than we originally expected). I'll probably never do another project of this size again. But if I do, I'll hire MSH.
Pros: what it says in my headline...
Cons: We didn't find any.

After a local show or dinner, go to J.P. Licks for some great ice cream. Sometimes the line is very long, but the wait is usually not more than five minutes. The high school workers work very hard and fast, so the line moves. There is a wide variety of ice cream flavors, as well as yogurts, and they have soft serve too. There are the usual milk shakes and frappes and sundaes too. It is located in Newton Centre where there are many other shops around. I wouldn't want to eat my ice cream in the J.P. Licks since it's always crowded and it's cramped and squishy, but take a walk and eat the ice cream since Newton is such a fine neighborhood.

don't know for sure if she still works here or not but Mary B was my favorite hair stylist. I followed her from an expensive salon on Newbury Street in Boston to this smaller salon out in Newton, taking 1 hr of train rides just to get there. the salon is nice, bright, airy, and the people are great. she does the best color and cut of anyone I've seen

My husband and I love this place! And it's our go-to if we're working late and want something quick - I can order on the phone when exiting off the pike and when I get there 10 minutes later it's just being packed up and ready to go. The wontons are awesome (we usually get them steamed - yummy!), and my husband is obsessed with Beef with Stir Fried Rice Noodles. We've ordered many different things from the soups, noodle & rice dishes and haven't had a bad meal yet. I took my dad here the first time he visited us and every time he comes now he always asks to go back :) If you're looking for a nice sit-down place for a quiet meal this isn't the place - as the staff review mentioned it's more of a cafeteria style place, which is fine if you're not looking for a nice night out. Being from NY we've eaten at a lot of asian/noodle places and this beats of them. They really can say they are No. 1!
Pros: Excellent food, lots of it for very little, and friendly staff
Cons: None

I can go there for a luncheon buffet, alone, with business colleagues or the kids and satisfy everyone! My budget is happy (noontime buffet is around $6.00) and the experience and service are outstanding. Always a waiter around to refill glasses or take away dirty dishes and entertain questions about India! A great date night spot as well, or a place to impress out-of-town guests. Always a winner!

I happened upon this place by accident one day a couple of weeks ago, and I've been back 5 times since.
The breakfast is very good and very reasonably priced. The sausage egg and cheese on an onion bagel was delicious. I also really liked the turkey club and the chicken parmesan sub. Most of the sandwiches are around $6.00 which is pretty reasonable for what you get. Much better than Subway's horrible pre-packaged chemically preserved meats!
Pros: open early
