Monte Carlo? The French Riviera..no...I was in Newport Beach at the Balboa Bay Club for lunch! This local get-away resort is sublime, distinguished, and elegant. We had a window seat over-looking the docked yachts on the Marina--I couldn't help but imagine myself atop a boat, sunbathing in a bikini out to sea!
Service was above and beyond what you'd expect at a fine resort. Reminiscent of a dining room on a cruise-liner, the First Cabin restaurant is classy yet relaxed all-in-one. Clouds parted for radiant sun and we were able to enjoy the serene patio seating for a last glass of wine. Soft flamenco music filled the patio with a peacefully procative energy. This is just my first adventure here, i will be back for the wine festival in May!
Executive Chef Josef Lageder came out to greet us, sharing stories of his Austrian heritage and how it shaped his culinary talent. (All in German, of course--nice to be able to practice!)
There is also a great bar called Duke's which has plenty of seating, a dance floor, and large bar. This is THE place to stay to make memories last a lifetime.
And why not splurge a bit, the gorgeous rooms run about the same as a nice room in Vegas, or even a jacuzzi suite in one of the Indian Gaming resorts around here!

My business partner and I stay at the Balboa Inn Hotel several times each year while consulting for nearby clients. We heard about this great Newport Beach oceanfront hotel from a client and decided to try it. In the past, we have stayed at other Orange County hotels. We were pleasantly surprised when we stayed at this historic hotel for the first time. Our business keeps us on the road over 65% of the year, and we usually stay at a chain hotel since it is easy and you normally know what you are getting.
Since we stay for at least one week during each trip, we appreciate that they have larger rooms with living areas and a refrigerator. The rooms are clean, well-kept and have a nice old world charm. There is a small daily fee for the wireless internet access, but it is well worth it. Where else can you work while overlooking the ocean from a 2nd floor outdoor patio?
We never have to go far to when entertaining our client?s as the hotel has a wonderful on-site Italian restaurant Siena. The chef is wonderful as it the entire staff?they are all friendly and genuine.
I am so glad that we found the Balboa Inn Hotel, and will continue to return for business and pleasure!

The hotel was great for my girlfriend and I. We enjoyed the clean and comfortable room with an awesome Oceanview. The staff was friendly, knowlegeable and very courteous, we felt like V.I.P's! We were looking for a dinner suggestion and the gentleman at the front desk suggested Re Nato Ristorante, located right next door. Just what we needed. Delicious and well prepared Northern Itallian cuisine, my girilfriend had the dover sole, made our romantic getaway that much more special. The Grand Mariner Souflee was the best desert I have ever eaten.

Hornblower offers quite a few dining and event cruises and they have all been a lot of fun... a little pricy, but nonetheless, a lot of fun. gthey take off from all different areas, so they're easily accessible. Whether it be for a party, a wedding, or just a dinner cruise, I highly recommend going, at least once!

I love this place. It's retreat!! Clean! new everything... FRIENDLIEST WORKERS AROUND. Very helpful. The best beds.. they're those special mattresses and pillows/linens.. I forget what they're called. The marble showers/tubs are sooo nice. It's right on the beach. Best location. My favorite place to stay.. better than home for sure. The restaurant downstairs is delicious. award-winning!
Pros: Comfort & Cleanliness. Excellent service
Cons: Books up fast.. reservations recommended.

Southern California's shoreline offers fun in the sun to suit every style, whether you want to people-watch on a busy boardwalk or you seek the solitude of a hidden cove. Parking is often hard to find at Newport Beach Pier in Orange county, but the reward of a peaceful afternoon searching for small seashells and watching the waves is worth the effort. The beach is clean, the beach goers are friendly, with a variety of store and eateries nearby.
This would be a glorious way to spend your Valentine's Day together. Do you need maps? Contact your local AAA office and ask for one.
