I've only been once so keep that in mind as you read; experiences may vary. The dark hardwoods used to wrap patrons in warm booths of Victorian comfort are adorned with baroque "sans-clothes" paintings: the perfect combination for a cigar and whiskey parlor at the country club and therefore a great steak. (Per my taste anyway) This dark yet warm ambiance is best enjoyed as the sun sets on the Pacific right in front of your eyes. Enjoying the paltry -yet adequate wine list begins with butter drenched escargot paired to a nice mid-range Sancere. (a personal favorite having studied in France's Loire Valley in college) Moving down the wine selection and menu in tandem led to THE best French Onion soup to pass these lips...perhaps the duck meat and velvety smooth broth bribed my palate into submission. Opinions vary for the right wine to wash down such a rich soup but our sugary Riesling matched the sweet and succulent caramelized onion-duck combination. (I suggest allowing the Riesling to come to room temperature when pairing with soup.) Stage three was cotton-soft Kobe beef filet mignon cooked to perfection; no knife necessary. As you might imagine, the wine was predictably and appropriately a giant grand cru er uh California Cabernet. (eat your heart out Bordeaux!). Finally, desert was an exquisite Bananas Foster paired with a wonderful Gewurztraminer (admittedly, I'm not a regular connoisseur of the German's sweet grape juice). I only say finally because I refuse to acknowledge our final drink. I'm from the Pacific Northwest and am frequently disappointed in the ubiquitous black water pawned as coffee in Southern California with an incredible exception in San Diego.
Snail, Duck, Cow and Banana accompanied by a French, German and two American wines requires slow appreciation, so make early reservations and take your time. I'm sure you'll find, as I did, that 21 Oceanfront is a quaint lighthouse of culinary euphoria despite their total lack of decent coffee.
Pros: Availability of escargot, proximity to beach, kobe beef
Cons: Paltry wine list, terrible coffee

This event is every Tuesday, the sushi specials run from 5:00pm-10:00pm and the drink specials last all night long until closing. Enjoy waterfront dining, live DJ, and dancing too. My husband and i happened to walk into blue coral the other night with no reservation and we had no idea what to expect. From the moment we walked in everyone was so nice and the restaurant was beautiful! we were seated right away. When we sat down and looked at the menu we were slightly overwhelmed at first..there were so many choices of wine and cocktails.. not to mention a ton of vodkas.. we didnt know where to begin. Our waitresses name was Danielle, and she was great!! She started talking to us and got a feel for what we normally drink... we decided to each take her recommendations for cocktails. I had some blueberry vodka mojito and it was best drink ive ever had. My husband wanted to try a new vodka.. Danielle brought him one from iceland that we have never heard of and he loved it! We had the goat cheese appetizer to start, For dinner I tried the spicy lobster fuego dish and my husband the swordfish oscar style. Our waitress picked a nice sauvignon blanc for me to have with the fuego and a ferrari carano blend that my husband had with the swordfish. Everything was so amazing we can not wait to go back! It was so nice having this kind of personalized service! Danielle was there guiding us and was able to answer any question we had without being intrusive. She even surprised us by buying us a dessert at the end, a very flavorful creme brulee. What more could we ask for? We can not wait to dine at Blue Coral again soon and will be telling all our friends.

I actually want to review Roy's in Anaheim at the Garden Walk just east of Disneyland on Katella. As there is no site for that yet, I'll write on this Roy's which I have been to as well. My husband and I had tickets to a concert on May 10, 2008, Saturday night during Mother's day weekend and we took our chances trying to get walk in seating. When we arrived at Roy's, Anaheim, they said they were fully booked with reservations but did offer the chef's table next to the kitchen (counter seating). We decided to try as we were very happy that another Roy's has opened closer to us. We had a great time watching the chef's do their magic and mentally taking notes of what to order next time we come. The food was excellent except for one thing I will mention in a second. We ordered the pre-fixe menu and the appetizers were great, tri-tip cooked to perfection and the ono was ono-licious except for the gorgonzola cheese on top. Too strong for my palate and of course, the molten chocolate cake...yum! We were extremely grateful to have been accomodated without reservations, enjoyed great food and the service was very professional yet not stuffy. Will definitely be returning!

this is the BEST place for either a sunday funday or just a necessary hangover fix. Right on boardwalk- you cant beat the location, the drinks are bigger than your face, and the food is reeeally good! they show all the main events (games, fights, races etc), very local/mellow atmosphere, and the services is legit.
definately recommended if ur in the area!

I also love thai food. I've been to thailand as well, and have eaten many thai food there, and everywhere around California. Royal Thai is one of my top 5 thai resturaunt to eat at! the other 3 are in thailand! So i'm kind of a thaifood expert myself, being that i've tried alot, and this is one of my favorites. love it, absolutely will come back for more, very nice atmosphere. very nice to come with al ot of friends or eat here with your family. It's also nice to come alone, when i do i usually come when its cold and order myself some of there delicious soup. Love this place, and like the person below me stated, don't listen to the bad reviews, there just trying to make you miss out! and yes, they should go to hell haha!
