Kean is a wonderful alternative to Starbucks. It is owned by Martin Diedrich who sold his chain to Starbucks. Kean is even better than Diedrichs. The coffee is roasted on-site and the water is filtered for better taste.
Lines can be long on the weekends, but if you're a coffee connesieur, it's worth the wait.

I have discovered that I cannot drink anything but fresh-roasted coffee, so Kean Coffee is a godsend for me. They roast all of their coffee right there in the shop. Most coffee is over-roasted, and for those of us who have sensitive stomachs, that spells trouble. When I drink the coffee at Kean I feel great. I also love the ambience and the lively atmosphere. I also love the latte art (it really does make it taste better!) and their specialty espresso drinks are sooooo good, I find myself craving them at the oddest times. Kean Coffee is a real coffeehouse with real coffee (they also sell the beans that they roast), not a big chain or a wannabe place. At the busy times it can be hard to get a table, but this is my favorite coffeehouse in OC, hands down.

like the reviewer before, I look forward to going to bed, just so I can wake up to another cup of coffee! I have tried Kean multiple times, so I am not being mean!! Its not good. The coffee service first of all- is soooo slow.. 10 minutes for a cappuccino? Both times... of those times I have been, I have been let down. The coffee is burned and Tinny. The only thing Kean has is the name, the product is not good, sorry Martin.

My passion for coffee is shameful: I tell my friends that I can't wait to go to bed at night just so that I can wake up and have coffee! With all the coffee houses out there, it's unusual to find one that is not simply a repeat of all the rest. But, KEAN Coffee is that. The space is beautiful and inviting, and the coffee menu is creative, offering delicious blends and drink offerings that are different from the norm. My favorite is the Turkish Latte which I would seriously drive from Los Angeles to Orange County for!
Luckily, KEAN Coffee is available for puchase by web or calling the friendly owners. The beans are roasted to perfection on-site (with a really impressive coffee roaster providing the signature piece in the space), and they have some great varieties including many fair trade, organic coffees. You can easily get the owners to talk about their coffees and process and to provide you with help in choosing something that you'll like.
They also have to die for light snacks/pastries from a local organic bakery.

This place is AMAZING! Great atmosphere, even better coffee and extremely friendly staff. And who wouldn't love the phenomenal foam designs. Grab a cup of the turkish coffee and take it all in.
