Audubon Zoo

The wonderful, fascinating Aquarium has recently reopened after Katrina damaged it so badly. This is my favorite place to go and cool off and de-stress while in the downtown area. We've had a yearly membership for many years now and it comes in real handy. With it one can literally pop in just to visit some old friends (my personal favorites being the penguins, Buck and Emma - the great sea otters, jellyfish, seahorses and the tiny tropical frogs...) If you have children, they will be utterly fascinated and they will learn a lot during each visit. Do not miss the petting zoo - where else can you pet a shark or a sea star? The gift shop carries a nice assortment of educational and just plain fun things as well. A place not to be missed for sure when you are in New Orleans! The Audubon zoo, just off the banks of the Mississippi river, has been home for years now to many different species of animals. It includes elephants, tigers, bears, gorillas and other apes, alligators, snakes, sea-lions and more. There is a petting for younger children, and several cafes, as well as a terrific gift shop. The Audubon zoo is one of the best destinations for the whole family, children and parents alike. more

The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, located on the riverfront in downtown New Orleans, is a fun place for all ages. It has recreations of many different water habitats, such as the Mississippi river, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Amazon rain forest. It features many different animals who make their home in the water, including sharks, fish, frogs, penguins, turtles and more. Also features a great gift shop. more

Great zoo. It's a little hot for people and animals during the summer. However, since New Orleans doesn't get that cold it's great from September through early June. The animals are great--good selection, well kept staging areas, good indoor reptile exhibit. The best taffy in the world can be bought at their vendors! Ride the camel, see the elephant feeding/show, and visit the nursery for any new arrivals. more

I absolutely adore this zoo! Admission is steep, but there are a ton of things to see and do. I especially love the polar bears and the penguins, although pretty much all of the animal exhibits are fun and interesting. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and well maintained - it's really one of the prettiest zoos I've seen. There are plenty of things for the kids to do and see, which makes it fun for the entire family. Highly recommended! more

I remember all the elementary school field trips to this place. It rocks! The only bad thing is the weather that you'd have to bear, but other than that the experience has always been a blast. All the animals seem healthy and clean. You can even touch some of them if your lucky!. I have not had a chance to go lately but i sure will think about going pretty soon! more

Located in Downtown, The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas was an amazing treat. I know absolutely nothing about fish or marine life, but I was thoroughly entertained by the exhibits. The penguins are great. I would recommend this as a definite stop for any visitor to the city. I was disappointed by the IMAX theatre connected to the aquarium. It is absolutely gross. They need to put some money into cleaning it up. more

Located in Uptown, The Audubon Zoo is absolutely remarkable. They have a large selection of animals and plants. I am not much of a zoo person, but this zoo has so many neat details. You really could spend an entire day there. They do have places to escape the heat. The food is reasonably priced. The staff is always well informed and helpful. They always seem to be doing something to keep it fresh. A must see attraction! more

The song goes, well, I went on down to the Audubon Zoo and they all asked for you. That is true. There’s so much to see at the zoo, that more than one visit is needed. If you remember back in the 1970’s, the zoo was very bad. Big dark cages and nothing like the open air feel that is there now. They’ve even added a playground on Monkey Hill! more

The Aquarium is located on the riverfront right outside of the French quarter. It’s hot all the time in New Orleans and the aquarium is the perfect place to beat the heat while experiencing nature indoors. You can even pet a shark! The rainforest section is especially up close and personal with the animals. more

In Louisiana, anything that you can do indoors is great in my book! The Aquarium is one of my favorite activities. They have lots of fun exhibits. You can touch a shark. You can touch a starfish. You can watch the otters play with each other. One of my favorite things is to watch the jellyfish. They are so beautiful. Next door to the Aquarium is the IMAX theater. You can purchase tickets to both at the same time. Also, you can take a boat from the Aquarium to the Audubon zoo if you purchase tickets to do so. more

We love the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. It is affordable and loads of fun. They offer the regular zoo attractions, like elephants and monkeys. But they also offer some special Louisiana attractions too, like alligators. It is a big zoo, so it is hard to cover every inch of it in one day. They have a train that runs around the zoo, which is a good way to see parts of the zoo that you don't want to walk to. Also, you can buy tickets to the Aquarium and take the boat from the zoo to the Aquarium. They have food establishments on site in case you get hungry. more

The Aquarium has several species from jellyfish to sharks... Tanks are set up for easy viewing and there is a petting tank as such where kids and adults can touch sea life such as starfish. Plus one can walk through an underwater tunnel and see the sealife swim around them. And there is a penguin tank. IMAX theater and its handicapped accessible. Tickets are pricey but worth it.
