At the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven, you can “recapture the romance of the local passenger train when it was small town America’s link to the world.” The museum building itself is home to an enjoyable collection of railroad memorabilia and artifacts, with exhibits that include a dining car replica, handcar, track inspection car, steam locomotive whistles and a ticket office. Visitors can get a feel for what it was like to be a passenger during the age of train travel and also get a glimpse into the lives of those who helped keep the trains running.
In the model train center, visitors will find 3,000-square-feet of delightful displays of different gauges and time periods. The highly detailed layouts appeal to the kid in all of us.
On Saturdays and Sundays, climb aboard the restored passenger train pulled by “No. 152,” a steam powered locomotive built in 1905. The train will take you on a pleasant 22-mile excursion through scenic Rolling Fork River Valley. In addition to the regular weekend rides, the museum also offers special event excursions such as the Halloween Mystery Event or the Christmas performances
