The Rusty Scupper has been around for quite awhile. The downside is that it's not near to city center (quite the contrary actually), so a trip in the car is required. You will be rewarded though; Apart from excellent seafood dishes, the Rusty Scupper also has a great location along Long Wharf Drive, meaning it has some nice views of Long Island Sound, and they've built a deck so that those who wish can take in the seaside panorama first-hand while dining. Overall a great place, especially on cool summer nights!

500 Blake Street is known as a reception facility for weddings - sort of Victorian and Italian decor with nice woodwork for inside photos on the staircase. They have a happy hour that is popular with both SCSU college students and professionals. The best feature of Blake Street is their amazing brunches on Sundays.
A bargain for a brunch in the area, it includes fresh fruit, antipast, seafoods including smoked salmon, shrimp, poached salmon, cold salads such as portbello mushroom, bagels, scones, croissants, hot buffet items such as carving station with beef, turkey, ham, or porketta. Home fries, pasta, chicken entrées, bacon, fresh fish of the day, and other entrées.
Belgian waffles and omelettes made to order.
Ice cream bar, strudel, various desserts, key lime pie, bread pudding with rum sauce, mousses, cakes.
Champagne comes with the buffet. Reservations are needed.

Anna Liffey's is a great place to have lunch or dinner, or to just have a drink. Most of the establishement is located in the basement of the building, so it remains cool in the sumemr, and is well-heated in the winter. You'll find traditional Irish pub fare here, including fish-and-chips and Guinness stew. You might also have an Irish waitress! The bar is well-stocked also. Food is wonderful, prices are on par with similar establishments.

I have been to Sage a few times now, once for a party and a few times for Sunday brunch or dinner. I really liked the food and the atmosphere was nice. It is also nice not to have to drive into downtown New Haven to go to a nice place. It is a bit on the expensive side, but I knew that before going there. I had the lobster roll and it was great. I am going to go there again this weekend with my family.

The menu is small and specialized. This is a great place to go if some people in a group just want drinks, others want dessert, and someone hasn't had dinner yet. The hot chocolate is fun because it comes unsweetened... prepare to add 4+ sugar packets to it!! Live music on the weekends. Cool urban interior style. More mature 28 to 40 year old crowd.

The food at Bentara was out of this world! It was my first experience with Malaysian food and I was NOT disappointed! We ordered sping rolls as an appetizer. They were so tasty and light that they roll was literally flaking off (not in a bad way). The dipping sauce was sweet and spicy, an excellent combination. For my main course I had the Goreng pedas, almost like a beef stir fry with green beans, slivered onions, and diced potatoes. Again, very spicy and tasty. I'm actually eating the leftovers right now! My boyfriend had a steak that melted in your mouth! Thick, juicy, and tender.
Martinis were great as well! Service was wonderful too. I loved the atmosphere - classy, but casual.
I would definitely recommend Bentara to anyone who likes spicy food. If not, you probably won't enjoy it, as most dishes are labeled "spicy". I definietly plan to return soon.
Pros: food, service, atmosphere
Cons: parking

I have been a frequent customer at this amazing place. Its family friendly and service is great. They deliver too!! And you get the papadam (crunchy crackers). Ask for the chef recommendations and off the grill for healthy eaters. I ordered the Royal Mixed grill and they bought the dish out in a steaming hot plate and smelled and tasted exquisite. According to the owner its one of the first and oldest Indian Restaurant in new haven and their experience shows in their food. I have tried other Indian Restaurant and their Chicken Tikka Masala but nothing has compared it to Royal India, the chicken justs melts in your mouth and since I like fire, they can cook the food to your preference from mild american spicy to hot indian spicy. A nice dinner here with basmati rice and Chicken Tikka with a king-fisher beer will make it all worthwhile. Go now and see for yourself...Stacey
Pros: Finger Licking indian food with good value.
Cons: parking is off site at broadway but they will stamp your ticket.

This cafe, located in a basement floor, is a hidden delight. A big menu, veggie and vegan-friendly, with a big burger menu to satisfy the carnivore in us. Fresh and plentiful. Bread that accompanies the dinner is delicious with cheese, fresh tomatoes, and just enough garlic. Even the sandwiches are fresh and tasty! Seat yourself, so good for a quick lunch or a casual dinner. Discount for students/faculty.
