What to do when living in Hartford on a snowy Saturday.
1) Get in the car
2) Drive to BruRm @ BAR in New Haven
3) Consume many great beers brewed on the premises
4) Eat lots of excellent pizza (sorry Pepe's... you may have met your match - these pies can't be beat!)
5) Decide to get another couple of pizzas for tomorrow
6) Kill some time until you're legal to drive back to Hartford
Yep, that was our regular routine for three years. I still miss those pizzas and their outstanding beer.

This is a great SMALL space to see awesome bands. Although I will agree with the other poster about Cafe Nine that the ginormous post in front of the stage has to go, this is a great place to see lots of genres. They have blues jams, rockabilly, punk, etc, usually a low admission price, and cheap drinks. Cafe Nine usually fills up late, so if you get there before 10 you can grab a table. It is a really small space though, so if you don't like being crowded this aint the place for you.

The shubert theater is a wonderful place to go instead of having to travel all the way to the city. The prices are well worth the performances. I saw cats there once and the theater is amazing its very clean and our seat were great. I get excited every time I hear when something great is playing!

Yale has so much to offer for everyone. The campus is beautiful, and on a warm spring day you can't help but fall in love with the place. New Haven itself gets a bad rap, but as far as small cities go, it has a great selection of restaurants, bars and cultural activities. It's common sense not to walk on scary dark streets late at night, so as long as you follow that advice, you should do just fine in New Haven.
With the residential college system for the undergraduates, students get the best of both worlds - a great research institution, and the personal attention of a small college.
For God for country and for Yale!

The Yale Cabaret is part of the well-known Yale Drama School. It is located in the basement of one of the Yale Buildings. They do a wide variety of productions -- from musicals to new plays. Most of the actors come from the School of Drama -- so the acting is usually top quality. It is more of a dinner theatre with tables and chairs as opposed to traditional seating. Drinks and food are reasonably priced and good. The downside is that it can be crowded and sometimes warm -- but if you're looking for something different -- try it. They do quite a few production throughout the year and admission is very reasonably priced.

Toad's place is a nice venue. Although it is on the smaller side it's a very personal setting when you do get to see a band play. Thats what makes it so great. Also, the long history it has. I would definitely recommend going there if you could get tickets. You won't be disappointed.

Rudy's has a great room to see bands in...just big enough, with another big bar room. They serve food and drinks, and have a ton of different sauces for the frites that are popular. There is another room in the back away from the bands. This is a fun place to go to on a Friday or Saturday night, lots of great live bands to be seen at Rudy's. Rudy's is a fun place to see bands.

Yale Repertory Theatre has a wide array of theatre that is performed. They average from student shows to professional shows by famous author/writers.
The theatre is a decent size and the tickets are relatively cheap for a theatre in New Haven. Parking can be a problem (as any place in the downtown area) so plan on getting there early to scour the streets for on-site parking.
Shows typically start at 8:00pm, but check the listings as some venues offer different show times.
