Edge of the Woods has been New Haven's response to healthy food. Primarily catering to those that prefer natural food, they aren't necessarily a solely vegan place.
They have a bakery on premises and have tons of freshly baked goods. They also feature vegetarian lasagna as well as other vegetarian foods for those looking for that.
The full market also hosts many local brands of natural foods such as peanut butter, jellies and locally grown vegetables. Although they are higher priced than those you can find in the supermarket, they are catering to a specialized crowd and market.
Their hours are reasonable, and their selection is great.

When we were deciding where to go for Thai food, there were many restuarants in the area to choose from. However, we noticed that this particular restuarant was always full with people dining so we dicided to try them. What we found was modest surroundings, good service and delicious food servie in large enough portions that you shouldn't walk away hungry. Also, the prices we definitely reasonable. If you like Thai food, you'll like this place.
Pros: Great food, excellent prices, large portions
Cons: None

I have been to Sage a few times now, once for a party and a few times for Sunday brunch or dinner. I really liked the food and the atmosphere was nice. It is also nice not to have to drive into downtown New Haven to go to a nice place. It is a bit on the expensive side, but I knew that before going there. I had the lobster roll and it was great. I am going to go there again this weekend with my family.

While the restaurant has Greek food on the menu it is more like a diner with all kinds of items offered including Italian food and burgers. Overall the Greek food was good although a little bland. The portions were large. Service was average. The atmosphere was diner-like.
Pros: Large selection of all sorts of food
Cons: Food won't create life-long memories

In the heart of Yale University lies Bangkok Garden, a charming little Thai restaurant. Parking can be a little difficult, but it is worth to try to find a space, and go into Bangkok Garden for a tasty lunch. I really like their Pad Thai. It is not pasty like at some other places. The shrimp always seem nice and fresh, as do the vegetables in it. The staff is very quick, and the price is really fair.

Au Bon Pain is the place you go to when the next door much cooler coffee shop is packed. It has a nice bright atmosphere, with free wifi. The coffee and pastries are standard, nothing much to shout about. This place just feel so out of character for a town like New Haven.
PROS: bright, lots of space open
CONS: boring

I am writing this nearly purely for the cafe. With it's in-bookstore seating, coffee (yum) and offerings of splenda and fat-free half-and-half (lower cal faves), this is a great place to either take a break from work with a magazine and drink, or to hole up to write a paper.
But as far as the bookstore goes, it loses when it comes to the "Yale" part. It seems that the addition of any insignia causes the price to increase 3-fold. So, stay for the chillness factor, but don't furnish your apartment with its offerings.
