I went to Rutgers in New Brunswick for 4 years and Rafferty's Brunch was my favorite Sunday ritual. There were always so many different options from a carving station, tradititional breakfast foods, italian antipasto, cold seafood, king crab legs, desserts and unlimited drink selections that come all you can eat/drink for under $20. Great value, great food and relaxed atmoshphere with really neat decor. I recently went back to Rafferty's for Sunday brunch after having graduated from Rutgers 2 years ago. I'd been craving their selection. I must say, I was less than impressed. They still had the same great selection, but the food quality had gone down significantly. I guess it's the recession, everyone is cutting costs wherever they can. It was quite obvious that they'd been using much lower grade foods. While I'm not planning on going back anytime soon, I'll be the first in line to go back once they switch back to the high quality, gourmet foods Rafferty's is known for. Pros: Lots of options, Free & unlimited drinks, Decently priced Cons: Food quality went down with the recession

Old Man Rafferty's is usually packed. The food is pretty good and so is the service, but the main reason why the place is so full is that it is right on the Rutgers University campus. If you're looking for a nice leisurely meal, Old Man Rafferty's is not where you will find it, the customers are loud and the wait for a table can be pretty long.

I went to Old Man Rafferty once and had to visit again. The menu starts with the desserts...pages and pages of them. There are so many options to choose from...ranging from sandwiches to salads and entrees. I had the french dip which was very good. For dessert I had the Vesuvius cake which was amazing...chocolate ganache, cheesecake, chocolate cake, and chocolate mousse. Get dessert!

In town for training, Old Man Rafferty's was recommended to me by a fellow trainee. It was a short walk from my hotel (Hyatt), and since it was only me, and it was a Monday, I was seated promptly. The menu was interesting because the desserts were listed first (and I would have had one if I wasn't so stuffed!) Even though I was seated in the very full bar area, the waiter was very attentive, and checked on me often. I ordered the calamari, and three cheese ravioli. The serving size of calamari was more than generous, and the dipping sauces were extremely good. The ravioli was some of the best I've ever had. I saw many different people there, from a group that had just gotten off work, a college group having a birthday dinner, and a family with elementary-age children. The decor was sharp and the lighting intimate, but the restaurant is a bit loud if you're looking for a romantic place, mostly because it's so popular. Pros: Good food, fast service Cons: Portion sizes were so big, I didn't leave room for dessert!
