The ice cream is great but the ice cream cakes are a true delight.
The New Brunswick shop makes blend-in cakes; the Princeton shop does not. Something to keep in mind.

We question whether ownership has changed. Recent visits with friends had them weighing portions, a double scoop cup almost blew away as I carried it and a soda out of the store. A friend accompanying me said her dish of icecream had 4 teaspoonfuls and that was it. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come with this long adored and craved tradition in town.Since then we found a Hagen Daz in North Brunswick in the new Shoppes complex off the beginning of RT 130 S. Nom nom nom!

The new Skillman New Jersey location of Thomas Sweet provides very little of the same quality we have come to love about Thomas Sweet. A recent large order of latte, coffee, tea and pastries to take back to my school yielded leaky cups and a single "home-made" tea bag for use by multiple people to make their tea. After leaving one of the items off the bill and accusing us of taking other customer's items (encouraging riotous behavior amoung the customers) two separate members of the wait-staff insisted on collecting for the missing item and resulted in overpayment. The hot beverages are served in cold beverage cups with non-fitting lids which yielded more than one spill during the ride from Thomas Sweet.

Dessert, anyone? If you want something sweet, cooling, and rich in taste, Thomas Sweet is a good place to go. They have many flavors of ice cream, blend-ins, cakes and other varied dessert items. The prices are reasonable and it is a good place to relax and socialize around a good cup/cone of ice cream. Their chocolates on the other hand are just as high caliber as their ice cream. If you need chocolate for holidays, they get very busy. So be sure to order what you want ahead of time. They have everything you could want - stuffed animals, truffles, chocolate covered strawberries, and unique chocolate shapes/creations. Staff there is very helpful and resourceful. Both stores are great for a lover of sweets!

Thomas Sweet's has the best ice cream! I have never had better ice cream anywhere else. They offer a huge variety of flavors AND it is ALL homemade! It is located not far from Rutgers University and it is a favorite spot with the college students. Prices are normal for an ice cream boutique. In other words, higher than normal but oh so worth the price. This store used to be just a NJ tradition (with 3 locations in NJ) but they opened a store in Washington DC -- lucky DC residents now get the honor of great ice cream.

I attended Rutgers University and Thomas Sweet's is amazing! The ice cream is all home made, in the store. There are tons of flavors. My favorite is chocolate marshmallow. The flavors vary from normal to extreme! The staff is friendly and the prices are close to those at most upscale ice cream shops. However, it is very popular and you will end up in a long line if you go on a warm evening. The line moves fast, though!

I checked out Thomas Sweet's ice cream for two reasons: my friend worked there and I had eaten their ice cream at their Princeton location before, and thought it was really good. The New Brunswick location turned out to be just as good, although in general they are pretty pricey. All of their ice creams are homemade!

If you're in the neighborhood looking for dessert, this is the place to go. In the summertime, it can get so busy that the lines are out the door, but who can resist such great ice cream at such a cheap price. I usually get a single scoop cup which turns out to be more than you expect for about $2 and change. They've got a ton of flavors and you can mix stuff in like cold stone as well and they also have italian ices and cakes.

This place offers one of the better options for a date in the evening if you are close to Easton Ave in New Brunswick. The ice creams are great offering some of the most delightful combinations, and so are the people who serve it. The location is convenient but finding space for parking your car is always an issue for someone new to this area.
