Nashville is very lucky to have the Frist Center. Its architecture alone makes the trip worthwhile. The Frist offers world class exhibitions such as the recent French impressionist collection including originals by Monet and others. It is a truly amazing experience that is definitely worth the trip. The center offers a great cafe, interactive children's exhibits, and often local artist exhibits.

The Frist Center for the Arts is great. They're getting some really excellent showings in for such a new facility. They also always have several showings in from less famous, but no less brilliant, artists with some truly interesting work. Their gift shop is terrific and loaded with neat items, especially tons of books on artwork and artists. It can be terribly crowded on Frist Fridays- I highly recommend the Fridays if you want to socialize, but if you like to take your time looking at the exhibits, I suggest coming friday night for the fun and a different time for the exhibits.

The Frist Center is a really nice art museum. It has interactive things for kids and nationally touring exhibits. There are discounts for kids and seniors, and they have special discounted and free days throughout the year. It is really nice and worth a look any time. It is only a couple of years old and already is attracting nationally touring exhibits.

The Frist Art Center is great all by itself, but the cafe (located at the back of the building) makes it even better. You can eat at the cafe without buying admission to the museum (although you do have to pay to park in the museum's lot; there's no ticket validation). On good-weather days, it's a perfect place to visit, because you can eat outside in the large, well-manicured courtyard. The menu offers the standard lunch choices: soup, salad, sandwich, but the ingredients are of the gourmet variety. Zucchini salad with parmaggiano-reggiano cheese, smoked salmon with roasted shallots, mozzarella and tomato with basil pesto. Their specials are worth checking out, too. I had an Asian chicken salad with peanuts that was great, and I'd go back for their desserts. It's definitely a step above the average cafeteria-style restaurant.

Okay, I am probably not the best person to rate the Frist Center, being that I am not a huge art fan. If its not the big names, I'm usually not interested. However, living in Nashville, it is a must to go to the Frist every so often. What is good about this museum is that is downtown, and pleasantly located in the old post office, which is a very cool building. The staff is friendly, and I must admit, the exhibits are usually of popular taste. I also enjoy that local artists are featured, and sometimes, like the Manuel display, are even major exhibits themselves. Its pretty cheap-under $10, so it makes for a fun outing if the budget is tight. And, oh, when the bar scene gets dull on a Friday night, Frist Fridays are a good change of pace. There is usually jazz or swing live music, food and drinks. And something else too.....what is it? Oh,right.... the art!

Friday's at the Frist is the best way to check out this place. There is a band, little snacks to munch on a beverages to enjoy while you peruse the art. A great place to start a downtown evening for a fun weekend night or an easy way to enjoy a lazy Saturday. They seem able to secure some pretty impressive pieces considering Nashville isn't exactly the art museum capital of the world, so if you are looking for a decent museum in town, this would fit that bill well.

The music on fridays is low key and laid back. I enjoyed seeing the artwork in the lobby, I'd recommend it for anyone. They also have a section with murals painted by kids from different family resource centers throughout the city. It's a pretty cool thing you should check out.
