Several times a year, there are festivals or recreations of timely events. But, the settlement is open at other times. Visit it often, because even though it's a historical site, things are anything but stagnant. It's a fun place to visit and I guarantee you'll learn something new.

The employees there are dressed in colonial costume and you have the opportunity to see things such as a blacksmith at work. They also have a lovely, small chapel that is particularly popular for wedding ceremonies.

Naper Settlement is located in Naperville, IL. It looks like an old time fort. Complete with a little church, blacksmith shop, mansion and much more.
They have several activities that take place each year such as craft shows and a civil war reenactment.
You can still get married in the little church. My daughter was married there five years ago and it was beautiful.
Very educational for children and fun for all.

Naper Settlement is a really interesting place to take the kids on a little local field trip. A lot of interesting little houses and cabins from the 1800s. They are really fun to walk through and the tours are great. Every summer they also have an even called civil war days. People dressed up from that era camp the entire time and you can see how they lived.
