I find it hilarious when I read some people reviews on places to eat. Everyone is so nit-picky and all of a sudden become a professional food and service expert. Regardless Karma is fantastic! The atmosphere is very unique and a great place to go for gathering with a few couples or a romatic date. Servers are extremely knowledgeable on the menu and everything is always cooked to perfection.

I have been going to Karma for years. I love their food and their cocktails, especially the atmosphere.
Last time we went there, the service was excellent and the servers knew everything about the menu. They could accommodate any special requests. Unfortunately when we had a time delay on the food, we could not identify the manager because she was not dressed professionally. The delay was due to the restaurant being short staff. The manager gave us a coupon that expired in two weeks. Also when I wanted to make a compliment on one of her servers, she came back with a comment card and ask me to fill it up, she was not even interested to hear what I have to say. On a Saturday night, we had to wait 30 min for a bottle of wine and we could not talk to the manager that day because she was bar tending. The only thing that compensated for all the inconvenience was the food and the servers that were trying their best to improve our experience. Whomever hired that manager, needs to find another job, because they don't know what they are doing. I would only go back there for the food because we love it. It is sad that places as nice as Karma go back to average instead of excellent because of incompetent people
Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service, Food
Cons: Short Staff, Manager

Went here last week again and the everything was spot on. Food and service was great and this is a perfect place for a date. The menu has recently changed and everything was delicious (we had Duck with a moo shoo crepe and the lemongrass grilled prawns). The lounge also had great complimentary 'bar munchies.' (homemade potato chips) as well as some interesting signature drinks (e.g. tamarind martini) I think the manager is new and seem like things are running smoothly after a brief hiccup.
Pros: Innovative menu, Ambience

Completely dead on a Saturday night. Screaming children in the bar and dining room. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes before being served - and there were only 4 OTHER PEOPLE THERE. Service was absolutely embarrassing - forgotten items, timing was off, and just overall very awkward. Portions tiny but price way high! Won't return.
Cons: Dead, small drinks, poor service.

I stopped by Karma last week-end and was surprised to find a city type restaurant in the suburbs. This oasis from urban sprawl has the finest decor in the North or Northwester suburbs. Check it out.

Karma was such a delightful surprise. Really extensive menu with a selection of everything that is great about Asian food, helpful and friendly staff and a unique, theatrical environment. The bar was also amazing with a huge drink list. They have frequent drink specials and everything they serve looks beautiful. Kudos to the chef for perfectly cooked food and excellent timing of our dishes.

I had been saving this restaurant for a special occasion and am really sorry I did.
Upon arrival we found the outside canopy down and blocking most the close parking spaces. Seating was prompt but the featured waterfall was broken. Most of the patrons were from the hotel participating in the all day buffet.
My dinner (salmon) arrived promptly and was tasty but salty. My date's duck arrived poorly cooked and the second preparation was a very long time coming. It was cooked better but still not up to the standards this place was obviously trying to reach. The waiter had a bit of an attitude and kept referring to my date as "dear". (We're 40) He eventually stopped coming by and was replaced by the manager. He did reappear at the very end with the bill and muttered something about he knew the manager had already apologized several times but he wanted to apologize again. (He had never apologized a first time and this didn't really count.)
The manager had a very nice attitude and managed to recover the evening for us. He even offered to comp my dates Irish coffee. Imagine our surprise when the bill came and they comped the $2 coffee but charged for the Irish portion. At this point we just wanted out of there so we didn't contest it.
I feel there is definite potential here, just VERY poorly executed. Train the wait staff! And if you must perform major renovations while remaining open, at least notify patrons when the reservations are being made.
Pros: Food could have been nice. Atmosphere could have been pleasant.
Cons: Food preparation / Wait Staff / Decorating - all in need of work

Great ambience and food came out quickly. Our waiter was rather inattentive and even seemed to have an attitude. Didn't offer a second round of drinks or more importantly ask how our food was until my partner was finished. I ordered shrimp in a spicy coconut sauce which was neither spicy nor tasted of coconut. Spring rolls were great and the peapods served as you sit down were very tasty. The hostess and others were extremely gracious.
Pros: beautiful decor, romantic setting
Cons: waiter
