I have been to Clarkes a few times myself so you know you wont be poisoned there, as you can see I am still alive.
It serves charcoaled burgers as is the name. It is a great alternative to fast food which in turn improves your health. But i find a hearty burger to be quite a cravability sometimes.
I did not score this restaurant very high because I did not find the SERVICE quite to my liking. The food is great, the cashier and cooks are not. Also, it was a bit too pricy for a burger place.

Clarke's has really good burgers, fries, onion rings, etc. Basically it is just your average American restaurant. All of the food is really good quality and really fresh. They make the burgers for you and put the veggie stuff on them yourself (they have a little salad bar where you can do that).

Clarke's basically has burgers, fries, onion rings, etc. Well, the food there is all really good. It tastes pretty fresh too. It can get a little pricey though--expect to spend about $10 per person!

I used to live walking distance from this place and I miss it. They offer one of the best burgers ever, great fries, chocolate shakes, good prices, great service, and more. Actually, just writing this review makes me want to have one of their burgers! I used to order the cheeseburger with mushrooms, fries, and a shake or even the vegie burger was hard to beat. Whenever I'm in the Bay Area I try to make it back to get my fix!

Much like the 49ers football team, this burger was disappointing and overpriced. For almost $8, this burger was small, and not loaded with mushrooms as stated. The taste was ok, but didn't quite live up to the hype. Should be renamed the John York Burger.

I have been going to Clarke's burger since I lived in Mountain View in the 70's. It is and I hope it will continue to be one of the BEST places to get a great hamburger. I now live down in San Diego On one of my trips up to Sacramento I stopped in San Jose to see some friends, and made sure I stopped at Clarkes on my way out of town. I wiould like to have one down here.
