Cuesta Park is a good park located in a nice location of Mountain View. It is pretty big and a lot of people go there, some even have parties there. There is a YMCA there as well. Nice playground is there too. The Cuesta tennis is pretty good, they have good instructors there. Unfortunately, tennis is seasonal so they don't have it year-round. It is in a nice place though.

Eagle Park is a pretty good park. I like that it is fairly big and has a pool. The pool is pretty nice and doesn't get too crowded. Eagle Park was made in memory of Old Mountain View High School, which was closed in the 1980's. What I don't like about this park is that it is on a pretty busy street and isn't a very discreet place.

Nice place to go around in groups. It also has windsurfing, pedal boats, kayaks. I love going there again and again.

I'm a lil biased since I'm from the east coast originally where lacrosse is more prominent. Lacrosse is still struggling to become popular out here so the selection of sticks and heads that Sling-It has to offer will suffice many of the beginners in the bay area. Though if youre looking to get serious and need to buy sticks and heads in the bulk I would recommend other online retailers like Great Atlantic. Sling-It doesnt appear to get much walk-in business at all yet the staff is really sluggish at attending to your needs. If you're a novice then I would recommend coming in to get some of your questions answered, but if youre a seasoned pro you're better off buying back east or online.

We were looking for Goggles and Costumes for Burning Man and the Mountain View Surplus seemed to have many of the things we're looking for.
MV Surplus is an army/navy surplus store that stocks all the random military and camping stuff you need.
Some of the burning man items we found: goggles (they have a great selection) to keep the dust out during the crazy playa dust storms, flasks (also a great selection) for all the partying you want to do, random kinds of flashlights, MREs and other freeze-dried food, ponchos, and best of all: flight suits of all different sizes and materials that you can wear out on the playa.
Overall, a great selection, and the prices are extremely resonable.

More
Ski Renter is a small ski rental and tuning store on El Camino Real in Mountain View. It's a phenomenal place to get your skis tuned--I brought a pair in and they sharpened, it, tested it, waxed it, and checked to make sure the bindings were perfect all for about $30. They're super professional and highly knowledgable.
They also rent skis and snowboards rather inexpensively. You can get a pair of skis for about $10 per day and a snowobard for about $12 per day (2004-05 season). Note that ski resorts charge about $30 per day to rent so you get a great deal from the Ski Renter.
Ski Renter is especially convienient if you live in the Mountain View, Los Altos, or Palo Alto area and you're looking not to pay a lot to turn your skis or to rent a pair for the slopes.

This is a small bike shop that seems to always have a bike sale going on. They are really attentive to your needs, but if you don't know anything about how to buy a bike, I suggest you keep asking question after question. Their prices on bikes are really good and they come with a year of maintanence. Or was it a month? I don't quite remember. It seemed like a pretty good deal.

More
I recently relocated to the bay area and decided to take up biking on a leisure level. I visited The Off Ramp with with a friend who would be considered an intermediate to advanced bicycle enthusiast to help me purchase a mediocre all-purpose bike. The sales people were very helpful and able to explain certain bicycles and features at both my comprehension level and at my friend's level. I ended up purchasing a very comfortable bike and have been able to establish a good relationship with the store. I even came back a couple weeks later to help fix one of the tire tubes and they were able to assist me free of charge. While my friend says the prices are a little bit above average, the staff is very forward and they do a great job of trying to find a bike to meet your needs at your price range.

More
I've been to most public courses in the area and its usually the same story. Yellowish rough, unmaintained greens, divot-stricken fairways, etc. When I came to Shoreline, I really thought I was playing at a private country club. The course was so beautifully maintained. The course itself poses some challenging holes and some well architected doglegs that might even give 0-5 handicap golfers a bit of trouble. I played in the morning at 7am and most golfing packs were moving at a good pace so I was able to finish under 2 hours before work. The rate is a bargain for 9 holes if you're a Mountain View resident at $18 while $25 for non residents. Hopefully all golfers who visit this course keep it beautiful because I know I definitely will make this a weekday favorite.
