We enjoy the atmosphere and healthy, innovative food that extends from South to West Asia. We've had consistently delicious meals - my favorites are Mt. Everest Chicken, Deezi Tabrizi, Salmon for the entrees, and Momo as an appetizer.
Bringing friends here is a treat, to share with others as though we were in our own home.
Thoroughly enjoyed!

We've eaten at Cafe Mazeh four or five times, and enjoyed every visit. The food is good, the flavors are clearly defined and distinct. We enjoy talking with the owners, who run the place themselves.
At first, the menu was new to me but I have enjoyed working my way down from Deezi Tabrizi, to Mount Everest chicken (which I had tonight) with side trips to some unusual pizzas.
We quickly got on a first-name basis with the owners, and have enjoyed the informality that has enabled. For us, that informality helps create a very relaxing atmosphere.
I guess, from the few negative reviews, that some people just don't appreciate the informality -- too bad, they are missing some of the charm of Cafe Mazeh. I suspect there may be more hidden behind those reviews than is revealed in them.

Rude is an understatement. The owner/hostess is unbelievably rude and unacceptable. All other good reviews for this place might come from themselves or their friends. The layout of the menu was terrible and confusing. When we were asking about a dish, the rude woman owner/hostess pointed the menu and kept saying, ??????Isn??????t it what it said? When we ordered the table red wine, she asked which one. My spouse asked, ??????Is there more than one kind? She said, ??????Isn??????t it what it said? We highlighted the new one. All I can say is if you want to be treated badly and taste bad food, go there. I have never been in a restaurant such as this place. Besides, the food was terrible. This place ruined my evening and left a terrible taste in mouth. It??????s beyond unsatisfactory.

I've been to this place several times and plan on taking an out-of-town guest to experience a local restaurant. The place is small and intimate and usually full. I keep ordering the salmon because it is so good and unusual. Side dishes are healthy and include lentils and seasoned vegatables. A flat bread is baked in a wood-fired oven fresh for your table. They have a menu that includes woodfire pizza, Middle Eastern dishes, and wraps. I've been there for lunch and dinner and NEVER had a bad experience. Prices are reasonable too.

This place deserves NEGATIVE STARS but I had to pick at least 1 star in order to write this review. IT WAS OUR WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER! This place has HORRIBLE owners. They are outright RUDE, likely even RACIST, and DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT CUSTOMERS. We went with our 2 year old son and they were even rude to him. We got so upset that we canceled our order and walked out (despite the fact that we were hungry and wanted to eat). When I talked to the owner about this, he said 'just leave okay'. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. I am generally not one to go online and give bad reviews for restaurants but I was so upset that I am writing this review at midnight just to make sure no one has that experience that we did.
I HOPE THIS PLACE GOES OUT OF BUSINESS SOON (which is a very likely scenario considering the owners are rude, racist and stupid business people).

This little restaurant is a neighborhood gem. I have eaten there several times with my husband as well as by myself, and we've taken friends from out of town and have always had a wonderful meal. The food is special, something to linger over, and the service couldn't be better. (Take my advice and ignore the 4 bad reviews)

The other reviewers are right. The hostess is downright rude and nasty. Her husband is no better. I was trying to decide what to order - we saw a neighboring table that looked like they were having something interesting. When we asked the owners that that dish was, believe it or not the guy shouted at us !
The hostess asked me can't you make up your mind - when I ordered soup with my lunch and canceled a minute later. Absolutely no help - terrible food, very expensive. Worst restaurant I've been at. These people are racist too boot. Run away from this place. I wish it would shut down. These people are worse than kramer at the comedy club.

RUDE! This was my first and last visit. I came in for lunch yesterday with my baby in a stroller and the older lady hostess (now I believe this was one of the owners-WOW) yelled across the restaurant to me you can't bring that stroller in here! My intention was to get a menu and sit outside as the weather was nice. Instead this fool of a woman didn't have the grace or manners to say to me I'm sorry, we can't accommodate your stroller inside would you like to sit outside and see a menu? If the management ever learns how important customers are to a business maybe they'll survive. For now save your money for the many other wonderful mediterranean restaurants on Castro Street.
PROS: You can take your business elsewhere when treated rudely.
CONS: Rudeness leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Totally agree with the previous review. What is the owner doing running a restaurant where she has to interact with people? She has zero people skills. She basically told us to get the hell out of the place when we asked for a new salad because the lettuce was brown and wilted. We actually got up and left and haven't been back since. It was a great place when it opened and the original owner was a nice guy. I drive by once in a while and I am surprised to see they are still in business.
PROS: Homemade bread and dipping sauce
CONS: The witch of an owner

The two times I have eaten at Cafe Mazeh since it changed ownership, the customer service has been abysmal. The owner/waitress carries a large chip on her shoulder to fling at customers when she feels the desire to remind herself she is more than just a table wiper and appetizer server. I wish that this would be a good place to add to my circuit of favorite local eateries, but for a customer service snob like myself, Cafe Mazeh flunks.
PROS: Nice ambience, decent food, locally owned.
CONS: Waitress needs customer service training.
