My friends and I like to stop for lunch at Cafe Baklava Mediterranean Grill on Sunday afternoons. We get a table outside and enjoy the wonderful food and the friendly service. The wraps and kebabs are excellent - very flavorful without being too spicy. Even the pita and spread they bring to the table while you look at the menu is delicious!

Accompanied by my husband, we went at lunchtime and the place was already getting pretty full. We were seated immediately and a busboy proceeded to bring us water and pita bread with this delicious tomato based dipping sauce. Not even three minutes later our server came and informed us of the specials. We opted for the hummus as an appetizer, and we both ordered the Doner Wrap which consisted of lamb, beef, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and a delicious yogurt-garlic sauce amidst it all. It was served wrapped in a very warm pita type bread and accompanied by either fries or salad. My husband got the fries which were wonderful--not too greasy or salty--just right. I got the salad which was basically just some arrugula and spinach leaves drizzled with vinaigrette. Not too impressive, but enough to fill you up with some greens!
I also thought the price was fairly reasonable for the quality of the food. We spent $25.00 out the door which included 1 appetizer and the two wraps. I feel that they should offer some type of lunch menu. The menu we received appeared to be their general menu for both lunch and dinner which of course, reflect dinner prices!
All in all, there was plenty of food, and accomodating and efficient service from everyone. We would definitely return seeing that the experience was very positive!
Pros: Great service, very efficient for a lunch hour! Food was excellent quality--all very fresh!
Cons: Don't have a lunch menu, so you pay dinner prices at the lunch hour--yuck =(

My eating experience at Cafe Baklava was superb. We chose to sit outside, and even though it was quite cold, they had heaters outside, which I thought was very considerate. The food here was delicious! My meal was relatively healthy and came with vegetables and it did not seem to contain as much fat as at other restaurants. The location is very convenient and the prices are fair.

Cafe Baklava offers a pretty good menu with various Mediterranean dishes and Turkish kebabs made out of chicken, lamb, beef and pork. They also have a pretty good variety of meats and fish prepared in various Greek and Turkish sauces.
However, when you go beyond the house specialties, the food selection is pretty boring and you get the impression they're just repackaging the desserts they bought in bulk at Costco and selling to you at marked-up prices. Few of the desserts that I've tried on my visits there were a bit watery and did not make me a fun of the restaurant.
On arrival the customers are greeted with a serving of pita bread and hummus. The hummus is pretty good, although if you closed your eyes, the taste definitely reminds of guacamole sauce at a Mexican place. The quality of the entrees is ok, but nothing spectacular. Eggplant seems to be ever-present in all their menu offerings, with several entrees including eggplant as the main dish. The service is inevitably slow, and the waiters have taken a solemn oath to read the daily specials even if you already know what you want, and you explicitly tell the waiter you're ready to order.
The place does not have enough ambiance to justify for average food, and generally doesn't become one of those places that you dream of coming back to. If you want to avoid the slow and dull service at Cafe Baklava, but would still like to enjoy a good kebab, drive up Castro past El Camino to Rose's Market (across from Washington Mutual building), where they make all sorts of kebabs on open fire. They will make it faster than Cafe Baklava, too.
