This is a fun place to take friends. We will be going back again for sure.

I went there once, and it was some of the worst food I've ever had. The gazpacho was disgusting, so bad that I had them take it back, and I've never had to do that before. We sampled many dishes, and all of it was disappointing. We talked to the couple next to us and they didn't like what they ordered either. The servings are very small and expensive. I've had good tapas before, and this was not it.

I went to Cascal on a first date and things couldn't have been any better. With our reservation, we were seated immediately. The bar was very crowded (where I was waiting for my date to arrive) but I still was served a drink within seconds of standing in the crowd. Impressive! After ordering, our food came quickly, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway because the atmoshere was so fun. Live Latin Jazz! Everything I tasted was exquisite including the Sangria. We ended up going back to Cascal on our second date with friends for drinks, and danced to the great music. So much fun, a must in Mountain View. I can't wait to go back again.
Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere
Cons: Noisy

Very good dinner choice! The menu includes among others Spanish and Cuban specialties. The service is (most of the times) great. Try to avoid showing up without a reservation, or your wait will be utterly long; unless it is rather early, in which case you may be lucky and get a table. I'd say more, but you better go and see for yourself... bon appetite!!
Pros: Life music, warm ambience, nice outdoor patio

when Cascal first opened, my boyfirend and I were excited about a tapas place in our neighborhood. The interior is nice, inviting, and comfy. The service was good, Sangria great. The food, though, left much to be desired. My squid ink paella was dry and burnt, the tapas (obviously forgetful) left much to be desired.
I have to admit I am a bit picky, the foodie that I am, but I always try to give every place the benefit of the doubt.
However, a second visit about 8 months later, and WOW. The tapas menu was more refined, everything tasted much better, and they have great live music (albeit loud) on the weekend. The food improved so much, we will definitely go back for more.
Pros: Sangria, improved food, great atmosphere
Cons: Long waits

The food was pretty good and surprisingly filling. We ordered the tapas sampler (nice assortment of tapas dishes, a lot of seafood), corn soup, and wild mushroom empanadas. The soup was the biggest disappointment... it had an anise flavor that just didn't work with corn. And it came in a tiny bowl/shallow dish for $7.50! Although, because it tasted bad, we were glad that the dish was small. The wild mushroom empanadas had a strange sour flavor, not sure if it was from the mushrooms or cheese, but in the end, it wasn't something that I'd rave about. The sangria was very fruity and sweet, a good choice. On the Friday night that we went, there was a live band (great music!) so it was difficult to have conversation, but overall, it felt really fun and lively. I would definitely go again to try other dishes, like the paella.
Pros: Lively ambience, good sangria
Cons: a little too loud

We love the ambiance. Some of the dishes were quite good but not worth the price. Why can't anyone do good tapas????? Do try the sangria. Why must there be a minimum characters in the review???

Went to Cascal more on a whim than anything else. Only have heard of the place by reputation. Overall I had a good dinning experience.
Cascal specializes in Tapas/Mediterian Food. The decore of Cascal is excellent and has a top end dining feel too it. You feel like once you enter you're in for something special. Upon looking at the menu, the prices are a bit on the high side. Depending upon you order will determine if you get a deal or not. Most salads range around $6-$8, Tapas $6-$13, and Entrees $20+. The Salad I ordered was a good deal because it was enough to split in two and it had very good taste and flavoring. Also I would recommend ordering the small Paella. There is enough there to feed two and it was well done. Also ordered the Lamb Enchallada, very small and really nothing special. More as filler than something that tasted great.
From reading the other reviews, did not run into trouble with either seating and the waiter was good & did a decent job in taking care of us. We went on Saturday afternoon around 5:30ish and that could explain why the service was good but can see how on a busy night the service can become spotty.
Overall had a good dinning experience and will be coming back again some day.
Pros: Good Food Flavoring, Excellent Ambience
Cons: Not consistant value & portion of food

Go for the Tapas, not the entrees. Cascal has pretty good food, but the service is TERRIBLE. We have been here at least 5x and never had good service. The last and perhaps final time a few weeks ago, we went for lunch. We ordered 4 tapas. 2 plates arrived with the bread and house dip. Ok..good, we ate that. They take away our empty bread plate, ok...then nothing. 15 minutes later I tell the host we are ready for the next tapas. He said we ordered the Queso tapa so that takes 10 mintues. Hmm..it has been 10 minutes. We wait another 10 minutes..no more bread, no more tapas. We wait 5 more minutes, then get up pay for our 2 tapas and tell them the service is too slow (the place was empty). Bascially they tell us we are wrong with our estimation of the elapsed time. I am not sure I can get over the terrible service this time to return...too bad, was a fun place to go.
Pros: Tapas, bread, dip
Cons: Terrible service, rude
