Sure its cute to have the sushi floating around in a boat, but what I never understood was, isn't sushi suppose to be fresh? Them suckers have been sitting on those things for hours if there not taken. Go across the street. There are tons of better sushi places on Castro Street.

the ambience is OK as many other sushi boat type restaurant. Like another review said, the boats are way too fast, even the sushi chef had a hard time to place dished onto a boat. Food are not fresh except the salmon. Tuna has colorant which shows on the rice. The chef recycled dishes quite often. I saw his took out a few "old" dishes and replace with different kind of food, but those old one stay behind the counter.
one of the sushi chef skill is terrible, I just happened take a few classed to learn about Japanese food, so I realized the chef was being sloppy.
Presentation of the sushi on a place is terrible.
Pros: In nice downtown Mountain View
Cons: food, bad food

This is my favorite Sushi getaway! After visiting other Sushi Restaurants in the area, I still continue to come back to Sono again and again. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is excellent. The menu selection is perfect for an afternoon snack or a late dinner for two. The fish is so fresh and full of excellent flavor. I highly recommend the "E" box for a nice variety of California rolls, Tuna, Eel, shrimp, and salmon. There Shrimp Tempura is exceptional as well. Enyoy!
Pros: quick and friendly service, menu variety, flavor, ambience, downtown location!
Cons: limited parking

We have loved this place for years. Great because it actually has the boats. The wife and kids enjoy this-I like it because they also have two chefs on staff to make to order. They also have table seating, but I wouldn't rec' this. Just sit at the bar, order some tonkatsu and miso soup, a big beer, and grab all the sushi you want. There used to be long lines for this place, but recently it has been easier to get in. Maybe it is because we go earlier now w/ the boys!

While this is not a stellar sushi restaurant, it is a lot of fun - one of the best sushi boats locally. When we went, the service was decent, the food was quite good, and the ambience was cozy. It would be nice to see more selection on the menu. The food is average, and overall it was an average value.
Pros: good sushi boat, cozy, decent service
Cons: need more selection, food is average, average value

Let's face it, sushi boats are fun. This place doesn't have the most creative sushi, but it is fresh and tasty, and they are fast to refill the boats. Really, there's nothing better than watching all the yummy goodies float around til you figure out what you want to try. It's like a foodie amusement park. Prices are average. Service is straightforward. Go, have fun.
