Bad: I am student at Stanford while coming from a friends place I dropped at this place. I ordered samosa and snacks there and the lady (owner) was so rude. I wanted to order paani pori and she said that she wont be able to help and was showing a lot of attitude. I don't know for what. If you want to pay for pathetic service and attitude as if they are the only indian place in bay area then only go there... I cancelled my order and would never go there nor would recommend anyone.

I was a little concerned reading the other reviews and that is why I'm writing my experience to add to the mix. My husband and I have enjoyed Passage to India restaurant for several years. My office has gone there with a large group on occasion and our family has gone often enough to appreciate it as well. What we have experienced is a quick seating, friendly waiters, and prompt refilling of items on the buffet as they get low. We aren't experts but our tastebuds enjoy what we eat. My husband thoroughly loves tandoori chicken and I like the chicken tekka masala, but I also enjoy their naan, and the veggie curries--potato, cauliflower, pea mix; the spinach and homemade cheese; the spicy potato mix, and their curry chicken. I do not eat the Chinese foods just because it isn't what I came for but walking around the tables and picking out a few plus the basmati rice and naan and my tastebuds are in heaven. I also like finishing up the meal with the mango sorbet. So I'm not sophisticated...it is always a good experience when we go.
Pros: Variety, naan, spicy or mild
Cons: On a cold night the wind coming in the doorway is brutal

Fast food stall for paav bhaji, dosa, chana-bhutara looked stale and for number of people eating there, it seemed as if restaurant was not keen on filing it and keeping it fresh.
The buffet menu looked unappetising with too much of food color used.
The breads - naan was not served freshed like most indian places.
Spring rolls tasted and smelled stale and looked as if they were taken out of the freezer and deep-fried just to fill up the menu list.
Waiter attitude was poor. At the end of our meal, he asked us if we would like something to drink like mango lassi!! Hello dont you know WHEN to ask!!
This place makes you feel cheated for the price of buffet-$14.99 compared to quality of food and service. Bombay Garden, Shalimar, Grand Indian Buffet on Lawerence Expwy beats this place hands down for same price or lower and fresh food.
WE WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!
Pros: parking
Cons: stale food, poor service, too much food color

Do you like Indian Baked Goods?
Then you should check out Amber. They do get packed, but they try to accomidate. Also visit their bakery, truct me they have some of the greatest cakes I've had. Try their Choclate cake or Mango cake. They also have Eggless cakes also.
Pros: Desi Chinese, Bakery, Nice Place

This is the restaurant I compare all other indian restaurants. Simply the best buffet, lunch or dinner. I like the fact that they keep their spicy food spicy. They could probably attract many others by mellowing the food, but I hope they don't. I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Passage To India is a great spot for Indian lunch buffet, with one side of meat dishes and one side of vegetarian dishes. I always fill up on the pakoras (vegetables battered in garbanzo bean flour and deep fried) and the dal (yellow lentils) is fabulous when they have it. Try the dark brown tamarind sauce to add a lovely sweetness to any spicy dish.

Food is ok. But the customer service is worst. Everytime we have to wait a long time to get someone pay attention to you. And also the management is very arrogant, they behave like 'I dont care'. Even though the food and ambience are ok, we dont feel like going there any more because of the rude behaviour of the management. One of the worst Indian restaurants I have ever been to.
Cons: dont care attitude
Cons: Arrogant management, careless attitude, rude behaviour
