I would recommend Dunns Auto repair to anymore who want to get theri repairs and have no time to research and find the cheapest possible options. Their rates are reasonable and the services offered are efficient and fast. They fixed my glass window and I had a satifactory dealing with them.

This is a small friendly repair shop that works on everything under the sun. They are located at the end of Castro St. near the Cal Train station--kind of in the parking lot behind the stores that front on Castro St.
The guys there are the best. Mark Downey is the manager and is always willing to go a little out of his way to accommodate. And Derek Bros, the red-haired kid, is a whiz at fixing anything--plus is willing to be late to his advanced automotives class to take care of you.
They do free brake inspections--and I do mean free! They had to slave over my rusted rear brake drums and it took a long time. They finally got it off and everything was fine inside--but there was no grumbling or attitude. They didnt charge me anything and were still friendly!
Their prices are not cheap--$91.50/hr--but they charge for fractions of an hour. I have always gotten good service here and feel like it was worth the money because they are so honest and are willing to go the extra mile for you and not charge you for every inch of it!

Low prices, but have had bad luck with them. As the shop has grown, the quality of work has dropped:
Oil leak problem - they claimed to have replaced the valve cover gasket, but only added sealant.
After service, engine was dirty from coolant and smelled when hot. Had to clean entire engine compartment.
Replaced brakes at 90k miles, but need new ones already at 126K. (we're not hard on the brakes)
I don't recommend them if you're looking for quality work. Low prices -- they have.

I'm usually a person who will wash, wax, and vaccum my car myself because I want to pay attention to every detail on my car. On the other hand, I will have my lazy days and with the nice streaks of sunny days in the south bay you have to have your car always spotless. So I wouldn't trust my car to anyone but the folks at Lozano's. You'll always see so many cars lined up here on the sunniest of days. Don't let that intimidate you because the folks at Lozano's are very very efficient. It's also really affordable for the amazing detailed job they do. $15 bucks for wash, wax, and vaccumming. They'll even vaccum your trunk for you if you ask them.

I have a 99 mercedes benz SLK-230. I had been taking it for service to the Mercedes dealers in the area till the extended warranty expired this year. So, I decided to search around to find something cheaper than a dealer but reputable and found Larry's Auto Works. They seemed to have a very high rating online, and this is my effort to rate them as they should be. They are 50% to 100% more expensive than even the Mercedes Benz dealers (San Francisco). Please avoid them.
I wanted a service B done. They called me to tell that I should replace 2 tires, replace battery, change all the belts and do a brake fluid flush. I agreed to the last two while noting the high charge for them. Then I researched around and found that even the Merc dealors charged much less for exactly the same service. I had no option but to pay when getting my car back, but noted my complaint.
Brake fluid flush (parts+labor)
Larrys - 42.84+158.20 = $201.04
Multiple Merc Dealers in the same area - $99
Renew drive belts (parts+labor)
Larrys - 97+195.60 = $292.60
Multiple Merc Dealers in the same area - $225.60

Miracle Auto do a really good painting job if your car is damaged or scrached in an accident. My friend visited them to get his rear (trunk side) of his car painted, which got lots of scratches when he was backing his car at night time when there was harldly any visibility. He was really sad to see that happen to his brand new car, but miracle auto did a miracle in fixing his car. It is new again.

I have gone to Helmings for diagnosis, and repair and they have been incredible. They have always explained what was going on and what the price would be before we started to do anything. I have found them to be honest, know what they were doing and what they could not do. They spent time talking to me about my options even when I had to go to the dealer for something specific. I would highly recommend Helmings!

The staff is friendly and polite, but they seem more interested in fixing minor cosmetic imperfections on your car than any sort of necessary repairs.
Maybe it depends on the mechanic, but I needed to tow my car back to the shop three times after a supposed "repair." The service staff also takes treats you as if you have no knowledge about cars, as if all BMW drivers are mechanically inept. You'd be better off driving the distance and taking your car to BMW of San Francisco.

Young's Automotive Service located at 890 Central Ave
in Mountain View is very close to California and Castro intersection. Mr. Young was recommended by a family friend who had used him for many years with no complaints. He gives you fair and honest estimates and he does not mislead you with suggestions for repairs you do not need. I have used him myself for 7 years on many vehicles.
