Yama is a cozy Japanese restaurant on the backside of the huge shopping mall at El Camino and Grant. The offer typical sushi fare. They have a good sake selection and great service. The Agedashi tofu comes with fish flakes on top, so I have to remember to order it without them.

I frequent Yakko Sushi every other week for a late weekday dinner and for business with various co-workers. It is always a great environment with a great staff that is always willing to go the extra effort to get to know their returning customers. For those not in the know, it is always a blast when they host their special events and bring out the sake machine. Now, I am not much of a sake drinker, but when one can pour sake as it were a slurpee then it is definitely worth mentioning. As much as I enjoy traditional sushi, nigiri and sashimi, every time I visit Yakko?s I solely order from the sushi roll menu because they offer some of the spiciest rolls that my taste buds have ever tasted. My favorites are the Arizona roll and the Washington roll, not to be thrown off by the Americanized names, they are to rave about because the flavors are extraordinary and with the hint of wasabi in the soy sauce, then it is party in my mouth with every bite. Beyond the sushi, there is also a wide assortment of delicious appetizers and entrees one can sink their teeth into. And as a dessert, the chef always surprises us with a specially prepared plate of food that he comes up with on the spot; it is always different every visit. Last time we were treated to baby octopi coated in a very spicy sauce. Yakko Sushi is must for all sushi lovers living in Mounatin View and the adjacent communities.

I really like the sushi rolls there!! They have the most unique and yummy rolls I have every tried other than sushi house at Alameda. The price is a little expansive but it's worthy for the sushi roll size. It's great if you can go with a bunch of people. They have unique appetizers like baked scallops..etc.

When I first walked in a couple nights ago I thought "oh dear"... but I was very wrong. The food is very good. Just spicy enough, very flavorful, and normal portion sizes. We ordered the full dinner, which I can never finish, and I had chicken tikka masala while boyfriend had the lamb korma. Both sauces looked so similar but the layers of flavors were quite different and equally wonderful. Excellent side dishes and creamy kheer for dessert, a favorite. The best part, though, was the tacky tacky tacky fake flower arrangements that were everywhere! Anywhere they could stick a cheap fake rose they did. I had just as much fun picking out my favorite tacky arrangement as I did eating their wonderful food! Bonus, they had Bob Marley tunes playing while we ate. The ultimate in wacky. I'll definitely be back.
Pros: Tacky decor!, Great food!, Sparse but clean.
Cons: Tacky decor!, But that depends..., ...what you like!

Each time we visit california, we have to go to this place. This is true, authentic sushi similar to what you can find in Japan. Fish variety is amazing and nigiri are to die for. Amazing freshness, balance and taste. They also have great appetizers like fish liver in ponzu and fried tofu. The restaurant is always packed but the sushi is definitely worth the wait!

I've been to this place a couple of times and simply loved it. I went when it first opened and was really impressed with the attentive service and quality of food. I was even more impressed when I went back after a few months and found the same high standards in place.
Onto the food, I think they really do use good ingredients - especially compared to the other Indian restaurants who seem to use the same spices for every dish. And contrary to the previous review, you don't have to be Indian to enjoy the taste - just need to have an open mind and empty stomach :-) I liked thier desserts the best.
This is a well thought out and carefully managed venture and I would happily pay the little extra and go back there!!
Pros: desserts

Our family was just driving by on a week nite and we happened to pass Spice. The restaurant is not very easy to spot as the sign is not that big - they need a bigger sign that lights up. We were originally going to go to another restaurant down the street, but the wait was too long and we decided to go back to Spice. We were able to get seated immediately at Spice. The server was attentitve. With our family of 5, we were able to try a nice sample of dishes. Because the menu offered dishes from different Asian cuisines, we wanted to try many of them. So we tried dungenous crab fried rice, pancit, the thai basil chicken, pork adobo, shanghai lumpia, banana fritters/turon and halo halo and even the coconut creme brulee. All the dishes were prepared fresh and the flavors were good, tasty, and unique and even unexpectedly good. The manager or owner came by to ask how everything was and we gave her our feedback, we suggested that perhaps, they be open later on weeknites. We also congratulated her on the restaurant, as we heard that they just had a recent grand opening and we very much enjoyed the food.
Hope more people find out about Spice, it is an experience worth trying.

This is my favorite Sushi getaway! After visiting other Sushi Restaurants in the area, I still continue to come back to Sono again and again. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is excellent. The menu selection is perfect for an afternoon snack or a late dinner for two. The fish is so fresh and full of excellent flavor. I highly recommend the "E" box for a nice variety of California rolls, Tuna, Eel, shrimp, and salmon. There Shrimp Tempura is exceptional as well. Enyoy!
Pros: quick and friendly service, menu variety, flavor, ambience, downtown location!
Cons: limited parking
