Yama is a cozy Japanese restaurant on the backside of the huge shopping mall at El Camino and Grant. The offer typical sushi fare. They have a good sake selection and great service. The Agedashi tofu comes with fish flakes on top, so I have to remember to order it without them.

I've been going to this restaurant for years. The appetizers are great - the croquettes (potato type patties)are excellent, but hot when served. The service is excellent, the wait staff is subtle and read hand signals. The sushi is always fresh. My husband loves their Alaska rolls, I love just about everything they have. They can make a custom roll for you if you like certain things. It's great for a date or groups up to about 8 (they have some larger booths). Try the fried Green Tea icecream for dessert, too!
Pros: Parking in the back and all around downtown, price, service fast and friendly
Cons: Groups over 10 people may be split up, but they have a couple large booths

When you walk in, you might think twice as it doesn't look like anything fancy. However once you try the food, wow, you will be glad that you tried this unique place. Thier roasted duck is absolutely fabulous, and the Singapore Chow Main is fantastic. Give these freindly people a try. This is also a great place to do take out. Order, then take a walk down town, and thne paick up the good in about 10Min. It makes for a fun and rewarding extraction.

More
I frequent Yakko Sushi every other week for a late weekday dinner and for business with various co-workers. It is always a great environment with a great staff that is always willing to go the extra effort to get to know their returning customers. For those not in the know, it is always a blast when they host their special events and bring out the sake machine. Now, I am not much of a sake drinker, but when one can pour sake as it were a slurpee then it is definitely worth mentioning. As much as I enjoy traditional sushi, nigiri and sashimi, every time I visit Yakko?s I solely order from the sushi roll menu because they offer some of the spiciest rolls that my taste buds have ever tasted. My favorites are the Arizona roll and the Washington roll, not to be thrown off by the Americanized names, they are to rave about because the flavors are extraordinary and with the hint of wasabi in the soy sauce, then it is party in my mouth with every bite. Beyond the sushi, there is also a wide assortment of delicious appetizers and entrees one can sink their teeth into. And as a dessert, the chef always surprises us with a specially prepared plate of food that he comes up with on the spot; it is always different every visit. Last time we were treated to baby octopi coated in a very spicy sauce. Yakko Sushi is must for all sushi lovers living in Mounatin View and the adjacent communities.

Returning to the Bay Area this winter to see friends and family, the first place I visited for a meal was Garden Fresh. Over the last few years, it's been a really nice treat for my wife and I, but since the restaurant went under new management late this year, the food has reached new heights. While the ambiance falls short on every scale, the food is what I consider the best vegetarian in the bay area. If you're into "fake meats", this place does wonders. Some of my favorites include the Vegetarian Pork Chop and General Tso's Chicken. Served with a complimentary corn chowder soup and brown rice, it's quite tasty and filling. I consider this one of the bay area's secret gems, and urge anyone who is into good food and willing to share in a vegetarian meal to visit this place. Note, if you're not into fake meats, I don't really recommend this place, as its speciality is this. Enjoy!

Each time we visit california, we have to go to this place. This is true, authentic sushi similar to what you can find in Japan. Fish variety is amazing and nigiri are to die for. Amazing freshness, balance and taste. They also have great appetizers like fish liver in ponzu and fried tofu. The restaurant is always packed but the sushi is definitely worth the wait!

I've had takeout from Maharaja a few time but never eaten there. My officemate (from Deli) and I love the Malai Kofta, although the Chana Masala was only ok.
Pros: Spicy, Flavorful, Fast
Cons: Strange Neighborhood

I only recently got introduced to this place and I LOVE it. There's a discount for students (thought I'm almost sure it could be for anyone). The Hon roll is humongous. When I first got it, I was amazed at how big it was for such a good price. I tried some other items, such as the veggie udon and the rice bowls, but I still prefer the sushi rolls when I come here.

When we moved from Berkeley, we tried a bunch of Thai places and were sorely disappointed. Everything tasted like it came from a package, and even the jasmine rice was all wrong. Then Krung Thai opened near us and we rejoiced. Their menu is chock-full of winners: Tom Kha soup, yummy springrolls, teriffic curries (Rama tofu is my favorite) and really good Pad Thai. Some of the beef dishes are not so great--one exception is the Beef Mussaman, which is sweet and peanutty and really yummy!
