I have always been satisfied, until today. I usually buy the 2lb. pound cake but my grandchildren asked me to buy the 1lb. cakes so they could have more icing with the cake. My eyes almost fell out when the girl rang up my purchase. I thought she made a mistake when she rang up $15.00 twice. When I asked her about it she said that there was no mistake, the pound cakes were $15.00 each. I then asked her what the price of a 2lb. cake was and she said it was $18.00. I couldn't believe it and she said that everyone was trying to figure out why the pound cake was priced like this. When Mr. Manning was there the pound cake was charged per pound - I don't know what genius priced these but I feel I was robbed out of $12.00. I have more respect for a man with a gun - at least I know that he wants to rob me - I never expected to be robbed at the Peter Pan Bakery.

I used to live very near Peter Pan Bakery and my kids grew up on wonderful Birthday and special occasion cakes from Peter Pan. They were always the hit of the party for taste and beauty.I moved many years ago to Cherry Hill and now live in Collingswood. I have encountered many long established bakeries and I have to tell you the cost and the quality leave much to be desired. I now have grandchilden and had to venture into Moorestown on business and had my grandchildren with me. I told them I was going to take them to a bakery where I always bought cakes for their mommy when she was growing up. We went in and the wonderful smell just made their eyes twinkle. I told them they could pick out a treat and they so much fun looking into the cases and trying to decide. The staff is so friendly just as I remembered them to be although it had been years since I had been there. There were so many samples on the counter you could have stayed for a long time and enjoyed as many as you liked in fact they encouraged you to try things. I have to tell you I will be sure that from now on I drive the extra mile and get my baked goods there. The prices are so wonderful and the product delightful. My bakeries in town are so exspensive and I do not enjoy the products. I am so glad business took me into the town of Moorestown after so many years of not being there. I have a birthday coming in two weeks and you can bet our celebration will be even better with a Peter Pan Cake.

This bakery has been around for so many years, I think even the cavemen BC would have had the good fortune to taste their donuts. The cakes and donuts and pastries and cookies and and and.........are baked fresh each day. Seems you can gain 10 pounds just walking in the door and breathing in the aroma. The store also hosts a top of the line gift shop which has cards for every occasion, gifts that you can browse all afternoon, gift wrapping services, balloons for every occasion and friendly employees too. A must stop if you're in the area so that you can take some of the awesome sticky buns with or without raisins home. Lucky you if they make it home without being eaten on the way though.
PROS: Yummy sticky buns
CONS: none

Contrary to the persona of its name, Peter Pan Bakery has definitely grown up.
Just ask Charlie Manning, who founded the Moorestown venue with his late wife Lenore in 1941. Freshly 85 years old, its obvious by talking to him that the passion for the craft still exists.
In time, the family business would become the gift that kept giving. In fact, thats exactly what daughter Melody contributed in 1967, when she added a gift shop. She describes the duration of Peter Pan as an evolution, a growth, noting that it has beacon of stability over the years, serving multiple generations, all the way back to when the grandmother was a child.
Added Melody: Theyre introducing their children to it now. And now they say, its not a birthday if we dont have a Peter Pan cake. It makes you feel good the way the customers accept the products.
The acceptance is basically quite simple, she said. Our slogan underneath our logo is taste the difference, and you can, noting that everything is hand made, as well.
Another part of the ongoing attraction, according to Charlie, is his ability to stay with the times and give their followers just enoughbut not too muchso they keep coming back for more.
Weve tried to keep, over the years, the traditional favorites, Melody said. Then you have the trendy items which last for a while.
She explains: One of the things that I think was very smart of my dad is he came up with certain items that he would only make at certain times of the year. As an example, she mentioned one such item, a fudge covered ginger cookie made during the Halloween season. By making it only [then], it makes it so special, she said. People dont get tired of it. It brings them in for each holiday.
PROS: Great tasting, homeade items, a niche industry in town
