I stayed here on my Anniversary weekend & the staff was very pleasant & professional. This Hotel has become very popular for the High School kids & the College kids. The room was nice, The hotel was having a party for a bunch of kids in high school & I believe that most of them also stayed over in the hotel, we didn't get much sleep because of the kids next door to us were yelling & fighting all night, screaming from the top of their lungs. The breakfast buffet was the best part of the hotel, it was just awesome, it was a wide variety to choose from, the food was excellent.
Pros: breakfast buffet, professional staff
Cons: many high school kids, many college kids, walls too thin

Gilbert's offers a combination of ice cream / gelato / frozen yoghurt shop with Wharf-side entrance, and a restaurant/bar facing the Monterey Bay. Generally a place offering the clam chowder outside might seem like desperate for customers, but in case of Gilbert's it's just a case of advertising really good fresh seafood.
The menu offers a good variety of fresh seafood items, with some items market as restaurant's specialty. The atmosphere is quite casual and friendly, the appetizers are good, and the entree items are generally not on the expensive side, between $15 and $35. They have a pretty good wine selection, featuring some local wines from Monterey area.
The fresh clam chowder is worth trying out, as this is the cafe specialty, as well as hot crab bake - a concoction of crab meat, shrimp and other seafood served hot on the sourdough. During the night time the view from the windows offers quite a nice picture of Monterey lights.

My husband and I spent a weekend in Monterey recently and our hotel was right down the street from the Bulldog British Pub. It was a Friday night and we were drawn in by the live music. We sat at the bar for a few drinks and an appetizer. The service was very good, the prices were reasonable and the live music was great. Overall, we had a great time and would return again if we were in the area.

I have been to the Brit many times over the past year--at least 2 or 3 times a month--but my most recent visit might be my last. It started off a a rather typical evening, sports on the big screen, everyone having a good time as usual. When the football game on the big screen was almost over, many of the customers asked if the TV could be changed to a close baseball game that was just about to end. Since there were a few guys still watching the boring, lopsided football game, the bartender rightfully decided not to change the channel. So as soon as the football game ended, we again asked if he could change to the baseball game so we could watch the last 2 outs. Again, the bartender refused this time just being stubborn, and many of the paying customers who had been sitting there all evening, spending a ton of money were a little upset as you can imagine. Some of the customers decided they would not tip because of this, and one guy said, "way to take care of your waitress bartender!" The bartender's response? He gave the middle finger to the customer! Then for the next 10 minutes he kept griping about the customers and even yelling a few things back at them. It was completely rude and unprofessional behavior. This bar does not deserve my business. I'll go where I am welcome from now on.
Pros: Great waitresses
