I was really looking forward to trying this place out, but apparently it closed near the end of July, 2007. Booooo.
Pros: Intrigue

After reading some of the reviews I was slightly hesitant to check out the place, but I was glad I did. The entrance is a bit confusing as it's not marked but there was a man out front ushering customers in (I think he works at Cafe Vin as well). The restaurant is very simple-it's basically a room, shabby chic decor. The staff was extremely efficient and attentive. Our server was very kind, patient, and even brought us samples of some of the wines that my wife and I were interested in. I noticednone of the pretension that other reviewers felt. The food was excellent (flank steak and ravioli with butternut squash). Portions would probably be considered small by some, but be we felt full on what we ate. Overall, one of the better dining experiences that I've had in Minneapolis.
Pros: Excellent service, superb food
Cons: Restaurant isn't marked, parking

We looked alittle stupid two weeks ago wandering around outside Pane Vino Dolce wondering if we were in the right place - there is no sign - that is until one of the servers came out and told us that this was the place to be. She certainly was right! We split the crab cakes which were fluffy inside while crisp on the outside. Next I had a ceasar salad so garlicly delicious my husband asked if we could ride home in seperate cabs. Truffle oil has never been put to better use than it was in my lamb entree. Finally the choclate cake which our waitress bluntly told us is the best item on the dessert menu was just that, though I wouldn't mind finding out for myself. The wine list left alittle to be desired, but our curly-haired waitress was able to recommend the perfect red to accompany my lamb. The service was great and everyone made us feel like we had been coming there for years. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys excellent service and remarkable food!

My husband and I discovered this place by accident. We have recently moved into the neighborhood and were walking over to another restaurant on the block. We peaked in the windows and were intriqued by the menu posted on the window. A gentlemen looking like the dish washer (but we think really serves as the host) convinced us to come in and try. We were so delited we brought back three friends and our daughter recently. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is excellent, and the service is trully the best. We were not rushed through courses, we were able to relax, talk and enjoy the company. We spent three hours dining and felt like we were the only ones in the place. Mind you it was a Friday night and the place was packed, but our waitor was not only knowledgeable about the food and wines, but was very attentive. This restaurant is a total experience. It really feels like you are sitting in a neighborhood restaurant in Italy. If you want to go and eat generic Italian food with pre-fab decor then you would be better off at Buca's. Our group had several different types of pasta's, as well as a special of the day - hazelnut crusted pork tenderloin (which melted in your mouth.) For desert we had creme brule and mixed berries. The mixed berries were perfect with the dry red wine that we were drinking. I disagree with the comment this is not a place for a group. Our group loved everything about it. I also disagree with those who say in their reviews it is not a romantic place. We noticed a couple sitting not far from us who I am certain was differ with that opinion. Again, if you like average this is not the place for you. Trully not an average place! We will continue to recommend to friends.

There is no outdoor signage so we didn't spot the restaurant right away. On a Sunday evening, we were seated right away and immediately some bread and olive oil were delivered to our table. We appreciated being asked whether we wished for bottled or tap water, knowing that bottled would incur an additional fee. Our party of three ordered a red pepper and feta appetizer; the Aglio pizza, spaghetti and a seafood stew for entrees; and creme brulee and chocolate mousse for desserts. Everything was delicious and nicely-presented. At times it seemed that we were waiting a bit long for our food, but remembered that we did order three courses. The bill was presented immediately upon request and processed promptly, which we appreciated as we were on our way to see a film afterwards.
Can't wait to go back. A wonderful place.
Pros: superb food, menu changes daily, attentive staff
Cons: lighting, not easy to spot, wait time

We walked in and waited to be seated. No one acknowledged us until the cook (was out smoking) came in the front door. When I rec'd my asparagus stuffed chicken, it looked good. Until I noticed that the center of the chicken was completely uncooked. I flagged the waitress. She said a new plate would be cooked and well get a free dessert. Most places of this $-range shouldve taken the entree off the bill. When I rec'd the 2nd one, it was obvious they just cut the uncooked part off and recooked it. Obviously the kitchen didnt want to recook a new piece or have to take a hit on removing it from the bill. The waitress did give us another free glass of wine. Unfortunately, waitresses come and go and the kitchen stays. The kitchen is cheap and unprofessional.
Well never return!!
Cons: kitchen, uncooked food, price

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. Yes, the dining room gets loud. It's part of the unique ambiance/culture of the restaurant; even with the noise, it's romantic and cozy. I don't recommend going with a group larger than four if you want to hear everyone. The food is outstanding; however, if you decide to be boring and order the most boring item on the menu (only a couple--for the unadventurous), it's probably going to be basic...try the ones that sound fabulous...they are!! The portions are the way they should be...a decent price for a fabulous meal you can actually finish (if you want something adequate to have leftovers from, go to the Olive Garden). It's about the experience...GREAT and knowledgeable waitstaff, great wine, you can actually order an app, entree, and dessert and not feel horrible in the end (and enjoy every bite). Try it, it's the best!

I read reviews pane vino dolce has long waits, only takes cash, was too loud and had questionable service. Times have changed! We magically recieved a table for 4 after a 10 min. wait in a full house on a Saturday night. Immediately I felt I had wandered into the livingroom of an old friend. Our server (one of all women) treated us like we were loved regulars and was very knowledgable. She and the rest of the staff seemed to really be enjoying themselves and their jobs. We really enjoyed the food. The mussels were addictive, the gnocchi was light and pillowy, and the Salmon was flavorful to perfection. It was a bit loud, still if I was looking for a quite romantic evening I would have waited and went back on a weekday. We payed with a check and left, begrudingly.
Pros: service, ambiance, food
Cons: possibly volume
