Tamara is definitely the most helpful shop owner I've met in the Cities. There is absolutely no pressure to buy, and I agree with previous comments, that she has a nice selection. Lots of pretty things on display, lots of great patterns too!
She also hosts Knit Night on Wednesday nights (not sure if it's all year long but I think so) -- basically a time for anyone to drop in and knit together. (Not a class, no fees involved -- unlike some other shops.) But even if you stop in on another day, she will help with questions. Not many owners do that anymore!
Of course, she does offer classes too... Just go to their website to see schedule or stop in for a newsletter. Or call to add your name to mailing list! One of the few shops also that still have a print newsletter, not an email newsletter.
Not only is Tamara the most helpful, she is also the most experienced owner/knitter I've met: she designs her own patterns and has had them printed. Check out her Weekender Jacket pattern!
(Note: No, I don't work there so this is an unbiased opinion!)

Clickety Sticks is not only located in super fun location in Minneapolis, but the store is just such a treat for the eyes. When you walk in the beautiful yarns, colors and textures will take your breath away. The owner, whom I've met once, is a joy, and a sweet woman, with a passion for yarn hobbies. She takes great pride in the store and makes sure that they are stocked with the best, finest, most unique yarns she can find. I have found some sweet raspberry colored mohair there, as well as a dark claret colored chenille that made a gorgeous scarf. One challenge, however, is that when they run out of a particular yarn or dye lot, it is hard to replace. So I would suggest making sure you buy enough to finish whatever project you're working on, because you wouldn't want to be left without at the end.

This is my favorite yarn store! The last time I was there, the woman who owns it was running this show solo, and doing a fabulous job. She was helpful, but not overbearing, and yet very friendly. She imports and orders yarn that you just won't find anywhere else, and as such, if you find something you like, buy it! Sometimes the best stuff sells out quickly, because it is so unique. Even if you don't know how to knit, she'd happily introduce you to a variety of resources to learn. If she isn't busy, she'd likely pull out some yarn and show you right there. Very highly recommended for experienced knitters and newbies alike!
