Restaurant: Good solid food at a very reasonable price, always with plenty of leftovers. Be there for the lunch buffet and you'll also be able to sample some foods you probably haven't tried before. And it will taste great!
Grocer: You'll see their hummus and pita in specialty stores around the Twin Cities, but it's freshest here. Also a good selection of middle-eastern style spices, bases and meats.

Countless trips to the Holy Land for bread, lamb, spices, vegetables, French feta, olives and yet somehow I've never eaten there. Their bread in all its many varieties is wonderful. The closest I've found to my Lebanese grandmother's. The French feta alone is worth the trip. Fresh hummus, baba ghannouj ... so good I quit making my own! To the person who said they don't smile -- I disagree. The employees are quick to offer samples from the deli, the guys in the butcher shop are always helpful and the atmosphere feels like a family business. For me, no trip to Minneapolis is complete without a stop at the Holy Land ... and Emily's Lebanese restaurant on University!

This place is on Central near Lowry in NE. They have the best food in town!!! Mediteranian, Lebanese, basically good middle eastern cuisine. The Happenings book has a buy one get one free entree coupon. They also have a HUGE buffet (like 7 bucks for lunch) and the best part is the "Take out buffet". You can get Gyros, humus, falafal grape leaves, spinache pie (basicly everything on the menu) for $4.50 a pound. That's definatly the way to go.

Holy Land serves a huge Gyro - each one easily enough to feed 2 people.
The meat is sliced very thin and is cooked tender and spiced perfectly. You have a choice between pita pocket bread or the flat bread. You also get a side container of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and lettuce and they have a wonderful, creamy cucumber sauce.
Also available are: falafel, kabobs and greek desserts like Baklava. Yummy! There is an on-site market with wonderful greek spices/foods.

If you have a thing for Middle Eastern food, you should check out the Holy Land Deli on Broadway in NE Minneapolis.
They have a daily buffet that is more than reasonably priced, and the food is authentic, tasty & exotic, with a good selection of delicacies.
Adjacent to the deli section is a grocery market where you can find just about anything you need to recreate the dishes at home, including a ton of spices, interesting canned goods & the best olive bar I've ever seen.
Definitely try one of their dozen varieties of hummos, their delicious pita chips or any of their oilves (from the olive bar). Holy Land is a fun cultural establishment bringing diversity & great food to NE Minne.

I had my first experience at Holy Land last night and I will be back. The food is reasonably priced and very good. The atmosphere is lacking but the food makes up for it. The gyros are excellent and the baklava is fabulous! We had a large platter with chicken, lamb, and beef and it was reasonably priced and we had leftovers. This restaurant is also boasts a bakery, meat shop, and grocery store.
